Hey I recently tried burning some dvds and it didn't work. Then I grew suspicious and tried to play a dvd movie and a bluray movie, and it reads none of them! I tried uninstalling the drivers, and putting in the resources disc but to no avail. I though the dic drive was broken but I think it might be a software issue, but I just don't know where it went wrong ? has anyone experienced this, or have a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Also I look in my computer and device manager properties and it says its a cd rom? I have pics I took to further give you guys some information.

Can you boot from a CD/DVD windows disk or similar since that would rule out software.

You DO have a Blu Ray drive, because BD-ROM is BluRay. CA40N (4th pic from the left, Hardware ID) is a BluRay drive if you Google it. Have you got the CyberLink Software installed because without it, Blu Ray playback is not possible as WMP does not support Bluray playback as a standalone product - you need BluRay software such as PowerDVD (that should have shipped with your machine on a separate DVD) installed.

Does it read any media at all? - I mean, maybe you have a disc with just data on it to test.

Just uninstall them and let Windows reinstall them. On DELL.com you will find only firmwares (if any is available). You can try this article for more troubleshooting.

Hello guys thanks for all your input. It ended up being a registry problem and just 1 or 2 files had to be deleted. Everything's working fine and I played a Blu-ray movie, though for some reason it did freeze in a few places
