Basically what the title says. I have been doing this with my m17xr3 bout 3-5 months or so
whenever I try to right-click at the desktop and the "Configure Switchable Graphics" option could not be found. After shutting it down I flip it so that the keyboard faces the ground. And surprisingly, it works.
What do you think of this problem? Should I do something about it? Repasting GPU/opening up? WIll this lead to a long term damage to my video card?

Probably a loose connection or a bad card. Try removing the 6970M, cleaning the contacts and reseating the card. After rebooting, try invoking CCC's switchable graphics utility check. If not available, check Device Manager to see whether the 6970M is recognized by Windows. If not, do a clean reinstall of the display drivers, using the stock Dell drivers to start. If not successful, call Dell for warranty service to troubleshoot and possibly replace the card. Given the performance issues raised in other threads, sounds like the card may be on its last legs.
