Do these temperatures look normal for the Alienware M17X R2 that runs 5870 Crossfire?

I was just wondering if these temperatures look normal for the Alienware m17x R2 that has two 5870s installed and does it look like I need a repaste? It's also idle.

I'm also really loving this community in the forums! So helpful!

You used CPU Id to measure the temps so we can see only CPU temps witch are about 10-20'C too high for idle, witch is massive gap :(

CPU/GPU idle temps should be kept within 35-45'C idle and about 85 under max load.

Use GPUz or HWinfo program to check your GPU temps, also, check the temps under full load, idle temps are not enough to check if the system is really overheating or not.

here is the link for HWinfo
    Download HWiNFO

    and here GPUz

Sorry, I'm just going to guess this is the temps.

And this is with it running the benchmark Heaven. Just by the looks of it, overheating is probably what's going on.

I think 5870Ms have a history of getting hot no matter what machine they're in.

    I could barely manage a 65c idle when I had a single in a g73.

Hmm, your GPU temps seem to be fine, but on the edge for me, in longer gaming sessions you will be at 90'C mark, witch starts to be dangerous.

Well the card can operate at 90 just fine, but it should be kept below 85, because operating at 90+ all the time may shorten the card lifespan....not always, but....ble bla bla

i would do a repaste on your place....

my gpu at idle is around 45-48 degrees, so i would say ur gpu is running a bit hot. when was the last time u repasted?

The thing is that I just bought the used Alienware from eBay and not sure how the last owner went with repasting this laptop. I just ordered the IC Diamond 7 and should come in next week but I'm going to need some help on what and where to repaste with the Crossfire that I have going on this laptop.

Do you also own the Alienware m17x R2 with 5870 Crossfire?
