Dell docking station option (pricier than a cooling pad but usefull according to me) is a targus that look like this

With an M17X R3 , does this docking station cool down the AW from raising the back as would most cooling pad/without the fans ?

i know the getto option to raise the AW with a book or something but was wondering if the docking can help cool down too and mostly don't block the 2 air flow at the bottom of the M17x

EDIT: obviously, the cooling pad will vent more.. but the question is, would a docking station be "enough" on a rig with an 580m

once again, thank you all for your help and support to our endless questions!

looks like that might work as long as it doesn't block the fan ports. If it does block the fan ports, I wouldn't buy it because these rigs need all the air through those bottom vents as they can get. :)

it looks like it is going to block the fan ports doc :( go with a nice looking cooling pad, however I didn't use cooling pad ever and it is working just fine

cheap way is to just prop up the back of the notebook with something that keeps the fan ports open ;)

I wasn't planning on ordering more from DELL for a while since all the apocalypse that happen with my order but its kinda weird/funny that you go to dell web site, click on upgrade, choose an M17x and they recommand this universal docking that seem to block the air flow.

hell, i dont even have my AW yet.. but im already discarding the docking station option. i'll try nothing flat on the table.. then repaste.. then jack the back up with the cheap way or the cooling pad way.. and see if its liveable heat-wise.

I would recommend a Cryo LX it has a USB hub and 3 x 120MM fans.

That docking station in the pic above would block your fan inputs...leading to higher temps

They have hybrids that have connectivity like additional ports AND fans. Those are your best bet I think.
