I take mine with me everyday. I have the backpack designed for the XPSM1730 so it fits perfectly. I also take power brick, iPad2, a few software discs, small amount of tools. Peice of Mind.

Just get you a backpack designed for a 17" laptop & you will be fine. I will admit I wouldn't carry my M17xR3 w/out a Backpack. Mostly because I don't want it getting damaged in any way. Treat it like a baby :D

ill see how the weight is with the bag pack.

I was just wondering, does the R2 fit in the tray in the airport security scanning?

I remember M15x BARELY fitting in.

My r3 fit in the tray just fine earlier this summer :D

On another note, I use the Everki Beacon laptop backpack and it works great. It has plenty of room for all my gaming/school stuff.

I take it with me whenever I'm on vacation. It's going to Maui in 7 weeks! It's not THAT damn heavy! Make me laugh when reviewers talk about the extreme weight of one of these things, at like...12lbs?!?! Make me think they've never hit the gym.

Is anyone using the "shoulder carrying bag" for the M17x R2 or M18x? What is your experience with it when you also include the AC adaptor inside?

I recommend using a backpack in order to ~equally distribute the weight on both of your shoulders instead of a messenger bag.
I personally will never go back to those no matter the situation ;)

-update now in central-ish queensland, quite rural..... in a primary-ish care setup, and i swear if it wasnt for the M17X to keep me company, i would've thrown a hissy fit....

+1 for the orion backpack, despite having loaded with the 17 and its adaptor, books, adaptors and what nots, the bag did not feel too weighted

this is why I took the M17x in the first place! I'd stick with desktops otherwise!

    Backpack > Messenger Bag

Im fine w/ shoulder bag if its under 50lb's of weight but books can get pretty heavy in college if you add the m17x.

I take mine to class and to my buddy's house, and used to take it to work all the time. As long as you have a good backpack, then it's comfy to take everywhere. It's also a good workout to have a 10lb+ load on your back :)

The Kenneth Cole Reaction roller bag carries my M17 and MBP whenever I travel. When I'm wkg it provides a 2nd 1080p display for the MBP and when I'm not my games are handy. Most versatile Windows laptop I've ever owned.

    Cheers,

I take mine 12 miles to work and back every day on my Motorbike. Its not heavy. Rosanne Arnold is heavy. Missy Elliott is havy, the alienware is nothing.

I take mine to work every weekday, and even fire it up sometimes when I need to troubleshoot by testing something off the company network to compare. I carry it with me along with my work laptop (Latitude E6520), so carrying two laptops with me in one bag most of the time.

It goes with me for any trip out of the house that's more than a couple of hours (my Android keeps me in touch on short journeys).

It definitely goes with me on any vacation and business trip. Vacations are the only time the work laptop doesn't come along with it.

Sure it's a beast compared to what other travelers might carry, but it's worth it to have complete computing power everywhere I go.

Take mine to work 6 days a week. I fly quite often and carry it on the plane with me easily also. Actually, I carry two laptops. My old HP (for the more dangerous Internet activities) and this R3.

Actually, I use a 3 section/zipper briefcase made by Samsonite. I would like to use a backpack, but this briefcase has a opening on one side that allows me to slide it over the handle of my carryon luggage ( if that makes sense ). Also, on some of the smaller airplanes they don't allow any carryon's and that includes backpacks... but my briefcase is allowed. No way-no how am I trusting the R3 to go in the belly of the plane! Carrying it on my back through a mile long walk at Dallas-Fort Worth airport doesn't seem like fun either, but then again I haven't tried.

Best Buy had a backpack I wanted but I've held off for the reasons above. One day, I'll stop traveling so much and graduate to a backpack :)

Can't help but recommend Brenthaven again :)

I know this is a double post, but it's such a good deal that I wanted to share it with you guys:

Sellout.woot has a $20 backpack for 17.3" backpacks tonight. Grab it while it's still available! Not sure if it's got adequate padding though. But for the price, who cares--you can just add foam on your own. G'nite guyz.
