Hey guys. I've only got a few weeks until I order my Alienware. I'm still deciding between the M15x and M17x, and I can't pick a colour. To me, black seems kind of boring, even though it looks good with AlienFX. Silver/shadow looks really good actually, quite classy. I like the silver trim around the bottom and edge of the laptop when you are looking at it straight on.

Nebula red is damn sexy, like really sexy. And I am so tempted to get it. Whenever I look at pictures of it I'm like Damn! But the thing that worries me is, if you're looking at it straight on you see the red trim along the bottom and on the sides. It's just a small thing, but would that mess up the AlienFX? Would Aqua green look weird instead of cool because of that?

All the real-life pictures I have seen of Nebula red have the AlienFX in red as well. So of course they look awesome, but what about with other colours? There's one I have seen where they did blue. I would love to hear from other Nebula lovers or owners out there as to their opinions. If anyone has a Nebula red one and could post pictures of it with different AlienFX themes I would be eternally grateful!

Honestly I have a black but I'm ordering a red chasis and back cover for that purpose it looks so dam sexxxy lol. Trust me the color of the laptop will over weight the AlienFX.

I'm thinking of ordering the lid and chasis just to paint them my own color. Dark Metallic Gun metal gray. The BMW gun metal gray. I had a motorcycle I had painted that color. now that is a sexy color.

Having seen the black and owning a red, I would suggest the red. There is something just not quite right about the black. It seems like it should be deeper black or something. Also with the black you end up with 2 tones of black because of the black plastic part being a different shade / reflectivity then the rest of the chassis.

The fun of changing colors wears off, but the red color (hopefully) never will. I leave mine on red and don't regret it at all.

I've got the red, and once it's opened up almost everything you see is black anyway. There are only a couple of small strips of red where you see the edges of the case.

I've gone with a rainbow look for my colour scheme. The keyboard colours are (left to right) red, yellow-orange, green and blue, and I've made the touchpad colour the same yellow-orange as the keyboard. Speakers and touch strip are red, and the alien head/power button are blue/orange (default colours). Looks very nice in a dark room!

Wow, lots of Nebula Red lovers here! It gives me a lot of confidence to hear that nobody is unhappy with the red. My feeling is either Silver or Red, but I'm leaning more towards the red now. Either way, I like a two-tone colour scheme rather than all black. And I want my Alienware to stand out!

Any time I see a silver metal laptop, the first thing I think is Macbook Pro. There are enough of them around that you don't tend to take much of a look any more. Plus they all pretty much look the same, so what's there to look at?

You can't help but love the look of the red. It looks amazing together with the black trim, and definitely gets attention. Plus everyone knows that red laptops go faster :D

As an owner of a black M17x-R2 & a red M17x-R2, here are my suggestions:

If you despise fingerprints showing all over your system go for the red or silver.
If you want a system that everyone notices, go for the red.
If you want a powerful laptop that is not a magnet for thieves, go for the black & turn off the AlienFX.

In a previous post I had stated that I was interested in getting a silver M15x. If I had followed through with that (instead of getting a black aurora desktop worth $2400 for $1100) I would have still chosen the silver as my backup system that would go with me on trips. My reason? I despise fingerprints showing all over my laptop & my wife loves the red system, so it is easier to have systems of different colors.

As to colors of the AlienFX, they have very little effect with the color of the outer shell because the majority seen when the system is running is the black bezel & plastics.

in contrast to what others are saying, I have a black M17x. I dont show it off, so I love it. From what I see (just what I think, not bashing anyone here) red is more like the pimped out version for people that want others to notice it. Black is more the practical option... like one of the posters told us, black goes with everything =^_^=

Yep, black does go with everything LOL - I chose the red as i wanted something "different" from all other mass produced laptops.....its easy to go into a store and pick up a notebook in black.

Cant comment on the quality of the AW black as i have never seen it - i mean, there is black and then there is a really good black , which im sure AW black is !

Also, didnt go for the red to be brash or show off either - my lappy stays at home on the desk 99% of the time and its only me who sees it mainly LOL

Its like a ferrari, its beautiful in other colours but is unbeatable in Red :D .

I've attached a photo of mine with a moving rainbow coloured effect on the key pad and different colours for each LED set for Alien FX.

    Its Beautiful :D .

    Hope that Helps.

    Please excuse the bad piture.

The second Piture shows her with a Blue lighting theme.

And for those who asked, shes sitting on top of the "NotePal U3" from Coolmaster.

Awesome thanks for doing that. +1 rep for you :D

I think a lot of people consider the red but worry about it clashing with the AlienFX. So these kinds of real-life pictures of Nebula Red with different AlienFX colours is just what I was looking for. In my view, the red colour only enhances the AlienFX.

its hard to tell but these are both nebula reds :p

personally, i do sort of not like the red with the alienFX. i;m sort of weird about things matching, and anything other then red in FX looks strange to me. except i have the little buttons at the top set to green to stand out.

i wish they made a all white one. that would have looked awesome!.

and i was considering getting some of that Carbon Fiber vinyl and covering it in that! 'cause i'm a car guy at heart and you can never have enough carbon fiber.

Awesome, +1 rep for you ;)

I would never be able to tell those were reds if you hadn't said, so that's good. I know what you mean though about the matching thing. I think the red looks the best overall, like if you are looking at the back of the lid. But it's definitely not a "neutral" colour.

For me it's definitely either Lunar Silver or Nebula Red, as I think the Silver looks really awesome. I read on another thread it's unpainted bare aluminum, which is pretty cool, and that means there is no paint to ever chip off if you dent it. Hard to make a decision between those two, but I just know I'm not a "Space Black" kind of guy

Yeah Lunar Silver looks sick. I like it even more than the Lunar Shadow of the M15x, because the Silver really gleams. I think a lot of people don't want it because they think it looks too "Macbook Pro". But frankly, I don't think anyone is ever going to mistake your 20 lb., 2.5" thick Alienware for a Macbook.

I go back and forth between Red and Silver all the time. It's the only thing I have left to decide on before I order in a few weeks for Christmas. I think I have definitely decided to get the M17x over the M15x.

If I could have anything though, I would want the all-white Storm Trooper laptop that SpeedyGonzalez made. Dell needs to start making Alienwares in more colours. Blue! Orange! Yellow! Bring it on! We don't buy these things for work, we buy them for entertainment and fun.

Hey even for work it would add more colour to the office :) .

I went for the M17X for the following main reasons:
    1. Two HD 5870 in CrossFire - More graphix power (Competes much beter with desktop cards).

    2. Two Hard Drives, instead of one (Unless I'm mistaken but the M15x only has one).

    3. 17" RGB 1920x1200 LCD Screen (compared to 1920x1080 15.6" on M15x)

    5. Number Pad, full QWERT Keybord.

    6. Anodised aluminium Casing :) , compared to the more plasticy looking M15x (Just My opinion, saw one after owning the M17x and did not like the look much, But still an AW laptop so Good).

    And some other reasons.

Only disadvantage between the M17x and M15x is its bigger and heavier, but I feel the increased Graphix power, screen ext. are well worth it.

Please note I'm not saying the m15x is bad, if you don't like the size of the M17x then the M15x is the next best option, and its of course cheaper.

    Hope that Helps :) .
