I have Norton installed on my new M17x, I just got the computer, so I'm not sure if Norton is affecting game performance, everything is pretty smooth from what I've played, should I uninstall Norton?

Is there a different antivirus software that you guys prefer?

    Thx,

    dave

I have NIS 2011 and it does not affect gaming for me at all.

I always do a clean install of windows whenever I get a new computer. That helps speed things up a bit.

Run a benchmarking program, like 3DMark XX, both with it on and with it off. If the benchmarks don't vary more than a few hundred points (that's a normal variation), that would be your proof.

Would this be the same with mcafee that came with my r2? Lots of people say to remove it but I can't decide. I'll try 3dmark with and without and see what I come up with. I would have thought that there would have been a general consensus on this subject like 10 years ago.

I would remove Mcafee, and replace it with Norton, AVG, Avast, MSE.....

You guys mind just giving me on some opinions on why mcafee is so bad? I'm not second guessing you guys I just want to hear anything about how much resources it sucks up or how much it will slow me.

I don't download anything on the laptop when I will use it I use my desktop for that so I may go without an av on the m17x. I strictly browse familiar sites/forums, play a few games and watch downloaded movies off a USB key so I think I can do without?

Mcafee does not work as well as most other AV's out there, it's the low man on the totem pole. You can google AV reviews and see, I have not seen anywhere where it is held with anything but a low reguard.

I have never used Mcafee and the reason why ??.... i work for a large public organisation who used Mcafee to protect there systems ... there system was hacked and it put down the whole massive system causing no end of problems as you can imagine .
Now i know that all systems could be hacked but it ruined my trust in Mcafee so if i get a new pc with a trial of Mcafee thats the first thing i remove ...
