I've had my Alienware 17 for some time and I have been getting ok fps in bf4 around 40 - 50 fps on ultra but i want to be able to reach a steady 60 fps in it. Im considering overclocking just a tiny bit to get the performance boost on my gpu. Will it void warranty? Thanks.

It will not void your warranty, AND, it will be very hard to overclock ''tiny bit'' to a level where you will get 20% more FPS (50FPS + 20% more = 60FPS)

20% more FPS is a LOT (in notebooks), and you need to overvolt the card as well...... in your case MAYBE extreeme overclocking would give you steady 60 FPS Bro.. :((

Just lower down 1 effect from ultra to medium/high - Boom - 20% more FPS :D

Lastly, if you have 780m you can use inlocked SLV7 vbios - last resort if you really want to overclock the heck out of your 17

Overclocking, does it void warranty? - Alienware Arena Forums ~ Post 9 Dummy. Go Home! This was the first google result. Please show me an official statement pleaseeee. Also, what about my factory overclocked i7 4900MQ is my warranty voided from dell??? ;)

Example ~ Part # 338-BCHW Overclocked 4th Gen Intel(R)Core(TM)i7-4900MQ Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost) ~ this says overclocked, my warranty is not "technically" voided, do not scare posters please, with false information.

That's for a single core, you are running your CPU outside of intel specifications, ergo your warranty is void, how honest you are with dell is up to you if you have issues though.

Meaker? Dell overclocked it not me. What in the world are you talking about? It is not for a single core? Each core has its multiplier changed by dell, by one. And in the bios, the tdp is 60 Wats BY DELL. Must I include the whole system spec. See Below. ~ (What I am running is what dell, has sold me) So tell me, how is overclocking going to void any warranty.

~ What's on trial is Dell's policy on overclocking. I want proof which shows that by them overclocking (Them as in Dell), my warranty is technically voided.

It seems we are talking about two different issues:

The OP asked about GPU overclocks, not CPU.

If the OC is factory, then it's covered. If you apply the OC and it fails, that is not covered.

Of course, Dell would have to prove an OC caused it to fail. That would take quite a bit of forensics. I imagine it would only be a problem if the same owner called 2-3 times in a year with a failed GPU/CPU, etc...

Correct, but I went as far to state overclocks in general. NOW to state that overclock induced damage is covered is wrong. So it would be accurate to say if sell could be prove that you damaged your card by hurting it intentionally then you are not covered, but simply overclcoking and the card and it dies a year later, doesn't void your warranty. Nor does it technically void your warranty. That is what we have been arguing about. But I do appreciate your input!

BTW- from your screen name, have you gotten OS X running on your AW17?

I have plans for trying this myself when I get mine.

Nah, I had OS X running on my M17x R4. This one I have not given it a whirl.
