Hey guys, I have two identical 27" monitors and wanted to play BF3 and other games across the span of these two monitors. Is this possible with the 580m? I have an HDMI cable/VGA cable...any idea on how to do this (if it is possible that is)?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure, the M17x R3 has three separate outputs - VGA, HDMI and MiniDP however, they will not work together. Even the desktop 580 will not output nvidia surround on a single card unless you go with non-reference MDT versions. Only the 600 series have support for surround on one GPU. Plus, I assume that your 27" babies are 2560x1440 and the 580m has trouble pushing playable frame rates on one let alone 3.

They are actually both 1920x1080! I am really disappointed I won't be able to play Battlefield 3 on the span of both of these monitors =[

to be honest the gtx580m would not be able to play at that resolution you will be disappointed with the framerate :(

Well seeing as you can't even get surround on a single desktop GPU apart from the 680, you shouldn't be that disappointed. I mean before the 680 came out, multi-GPU was a prerequisite if anyone wanted to do any surround setup. Laptops can only deliver a certain amount.

I remember when I had three 1920x1080 monitors in surround with 2 desktop 580's and they barely play crysis and when I enable 3d it was horrible :D

I might just have to sell my R3 for a desktop with a GPU that supports what I need!

I'd go for three monitors instead of two. With two you'll have a break down the center of the game display.

Except I'm not sure if nVidia cards can push 3 monitors. Might need and ATI card...or perhaps it's time for a 2win card? :)

Ok, since we've gone a little off topic, the GTX 680 can drive four monitors (one as an accessory display).

As for the 680M, I guess we'll have to wait and see, but I pretty much doubt.

LOL, you sold your R2 because you needed more battery life. Now you don't want any mobility at all?! PICK A SYSTEM TO STICK WITH

I'm just giving you a hard time :D

Hahaha, ideally, I want a gaming desktop and a decent laptop to take to class.

Now...what to do with this extra 27" monitor...
