To all R4 owners, does de R4 have true non glitched SATA3 on both ports?
I'm in conflict with dell about the R3 with the supposed/fubar SATA3 support and the solution is a upgrade/refund to the R4 but only if i know for sure the R4 has True SATA3.

At this point i have dell thus far to replace my system for either R4 or upgrade to M18XR2.
I rather have the R4 because M18 is bigger and i need it to transport, not really an option for me.

    Kind regards.

As I understand it only supports sata3 on the mSATA and 1 of the 2 regular ports, not both.

The R4 spec sheet/graphic shows this:

I interpret that to mean that the R4 can accommodate 2 x SATA III (6GB/sec) hard drives/SSD's, without regard to any mSATA drive.

Please let me know how it goes (PM if necessary). I've submitted a bbb complaint so that I can get my system repaired or replaced. I attempted to resolve via a tech support call but their response was that I had to buy a new laptop...

hopefully, they fixed the issues in the R4...in the R3, you get SATA3 from the A08 bios...newer machines on the A09 or A10 bios have the SATA downclocked to SATA2

yes i know but raid is unstable on A08 with sata3 ssd's.
the way dell treats this issue is ridicules, the "solve" it by removing it in the bios.. we all bought the R3 with full SATA3 on both ports and after a year they still havent fixed the problem.

    -------------------------------------

the R3 had same specs but not working so i do not believe anymore what dell says in the specssheet.

hell manual A00 of R3 says same as you picture but they updated the manual to A01 and remove any notion of SATA3 support.

Yup...as much as we a love Alienware this is what they bestow upon us at time or rather often.

I have observed of late Dell has been using a new method to avoid rectification. It simply limits the function or withdraws the impaired function as in the case stating " 100 Watts of performance " in R4 as well as downgrading Sata 3 to Sata 2 in R3 via bios update.

Welcome to corporate responsibility for profit.

Working on free upgrade to R4 wich has real SATA3 on both ports according to dell.
seems that the H57 chipset in R3 does support sata 3 on 2 of the six ports but the kicker is that 1 sata3 port is on the optical drive and the other is port 1 or 0.
the fun part is that de tech rep littarly told me that they downgraded the bios for stability and if 9 of 10 users don't care there is no problem.. lol.

i have a 6990M, logical is to ask/demand the 7970M card? since the 650M< is a downgrade and 675M is nvidia which i do not want..
second problem is i have a killer n1103 wich is not in te R4..

Hm HM77 has only 2 SATA III Ports
I think the other 2 are PCIe<->SATA III Bridge
The R3 has a WiHD option. Which interface connects it to the MB? PCIe?

    6990M > 7970M
dvdrw > blueray (because no killer wifi in R4)
rest i had basic so will add ssd and ram myself.

    Why are they giving you 3610 instead of 3820? 2820 has 8MB cache... 2820,next 2860, next 3820.

3610 is a downgrade both in terms of Frequency and L2/L3 Cache....If you need good speedy repetitive process like rendering adobe photoshop or encoding etc..you require good L2/L3 cache.

Higher L3 cache costs more bro..Infact your 2820 card costed $538 and its the same price for all 8 series... 7 series costs $378......6 series costs just above $300...

Only 8 series and 9 series have 8Mb of L3 Cache. Dont let them fool you in terms of frequency.

Plus they are also decreasing the camera resolution from 3.2 to 2.1MP....

Yeah I meant, the camera we have no choice but CPU etc are critical and cost sensitive components they should give u the same in all aspects or better.
