It will fit in, but why put a slow 5200 rpm HDD in a powerful machine like the m17x? If you want extra storage you can get a small and fast 1TB WD USB 3.0 external hard drive for that price.

    Actually I am thinking of getting this one - Newegg.com - Seagate Constellation.2 ST91000640NS 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 2.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Enterprise-class Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Do you think it is worth spending the money. It costs 80$ more than a USB 3.0 1TB(at 5400rpm, no 7200rpm 1TB externals) external but wont it give much better performance, and then there the convenience of an Internal drive.
Anyway if you want to help me select the HDD check my other thread(i dont want to cross post) -

Sorry just noticed that it was a 15mm height one, any chance it'll fit??

For $150 you can get a 2.5" 1.5TB Seagate external with USB 3.0 interface. I got 2 of those and rock my world... :D

I do also agree with getting an external, but however 5400rpm doesn't hurt too much. I use a 750gb 5400rpm and there is maybe just a little lag, but nothing that is extremely noticeable.

Problem with that drive is that it is 15mm in thickness.

They do run AWESOME (have one in a m-itx build I did for someone) but doubt it would fit in a laptop yet

15mm will not fit and unfortunately 12.5MM will not fit either without modifications, even then it probably won't fit.

There's a thread about this concerning the R2 where someone verified that the bottom cover will not go back on when running the 12.5mm drive in the R3. 750GB, 7,200 RPM drives are standard thickness and fit fine though.

Yeah, while I haven't tried it myself, it really doesn't look like there's any room to spare when using the standard 9.5mm drives.

The 1TB drive I run makes the bottom cover of my R2 bulge ever so slightly.
