GeForce GTX1070M N17E-G2-A1 8GB MXM 3.0 Type B for Alienware Clevo MSI DELL

It would be very helpful to know if this 1070 Is completely compatible with the M17x r4.
I have a pure UEFI Environment with 1920x1080 120hz screen which are the requirements for the 1070 along with legacy mode tuned off. The selller says that it is compatible, but I would like a second opinion

The only way to know is plug it in and turn on the laptop.

They work, but you are limited to 120W of power, that looks like a HP card so it should be fine.
I tested a 1060 HP card in the M17x R4 and no problems.

Thank you for confirming! I'll definitely report back my success if it works

Edit: did you have to do any heatsink modding? Or any filing down?

Should not need to as this HP card is standard 3.0b.
They sell full copper 5 pipe GPU heatsink for this laptop on ebay, avoid the full copper CPU heatsink they sell though, that one is useless.
You will need to modify the drivers to get them to install.

I currently have only a 180W power supply on hand right now. Can I boot on windows with that power supply?

180W should do fine but 230W is preferable if you want to put any serious load on it.
This is specially true if you got a 55W CPU

So on several post, I have seen that the GPU fans don't automatically spin unless HWinfo is present. Would I have to make a fan table?

Yes, that is true even for the 1060.
HWiNFO is a little pain at times because you have to manually start it everytime you start your computer for the fan control to work.
But it works, there only like 4 or 5 speed settings though.

Sorry for asking this many questions, but is there any way that we might be able to control the fans automatically without HWINFO just out of curiosity. Because on one forum i heard that the fans automatically turn on after hitting 60c

Not that I know of, all the other programs I have tried never worked as well as HWiNFO did.

HWInfo can be setup to auto start and minimize the sensors too. Problem is that it freezes and locks your fan speed when it does. Have to remove the laptop battery to prevent the HWInfo freeze.

So before starting the laptop, I have to remove the battery? Every time

Whenever you do not want HWinfo to possibly freeze, you leave out the battery. HWInfo uses the same bus as the embedded controller to monitor the battery. If HWInfo hops on the bus while the controller checks the battery, boom. Frozen HWInfo and you get whatever the last RPM request for the fan. Could be low or could be high. Likely not what you need if your workload changes at all.

Probably what has lead to some 1070 being killed.

That's interesting information regarding the full copper CPU Heatsink.

I've purchased both put LM on it and 1070 temps are around 60-ish and 3920xm around 70-ish degrees under full load on stock.
Hoped to oc the CPU a bit but with 70 degrees on stock I'm not so sure if it is worth it. As far as I can tell the CPU Heatsink fits/sits well on the die.

How do you got CPU temps improved? Did you oc your CPU?

Perhaps he means that with the upgraded CPU fan and stock heatsink you will likely not throttle. Hard to get to 100*C.

    In this techinferno post,
    M17X R4 GTX 1060 upgrade
I read that you could alternatively set these settings to avoid freezes in HWINFO

"Alternatively use the settings provided in my screenshot. I know that the ACPI features are likely to be the main cause of lockups, but to be sure copy my settings and only monitor the sensors needed for fan control (e.g. CPU package temp and GPU temp). the author of this program is aware that the battery monitoring is the cause for lock ups (which uses the ACPI in windows)" - Ripsaw

Try it. Usually I still get a freeze 100-140 hours in. Sold the laptop since I got tired of it.

So the timer just stays at 0 or just stays at the same number?
