I had this problem with my desktop. At the bottom of the computer right click the volume icon. Then select playback devices, now look for your tv and if it is there select make default device.

Subscribing just in case. Hope this gets solved. Are you the only one experiencing this? I can't try it, cuz I don't have speakers on my monitor at home.

    Hi there Typecast,

Try right clicking the sound icon in the task bar right hand side corner and then selecting playback devices.

While under the playback tab right click on any white space area and make sure both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" are ticked.

You should then be able to click on "AMD HDMI Output" icon and set it as your default for sound output. Try this and hopefully your sound should start outputting from the TV Speaker setup.

If the above doesn't work you may need to try and reinstall the GPU drivers.

    Cheers. :)

don't know how the device detection works through HDMI but could it possibly be a faulty cable or a setting on the TV

Anyone confirm that the HDMI sound device is in the devices list even when no HDMI device is connected or does it only appear after connection

Try to look into you TV options. On my TV I have to set it to PC in order to get sound from my R3.

Isn't "Digital Audio" the HDMI Audio output? Try and make that one the default device.

Try looking in the catalyst center to make sure that you are using hdmi with audio enabled settings? Should be with the resolution i believe or under flat panel setup.

Goto device manager make sure it says this

if not you do not have the ATI HDMI/DP Audio drivers installed, try reinstalling the dell drivers which should have the HDMI driver.

Also I found this says its for XP 32/64 bit, but ran fine for me.
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/hdmi_xp.aspx

These might work haven't been updated since dec of 2010, but for the 5870's Realtek made the drivers for the HDMI/DP
    http://www.realtek.com/downloads/do...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Also, when this happened on my 4870s I used to plug it in restart and with the HDMI cable still plugged in. then the HDMI audio would show up in the audio properties box.

good luck hope you can get this solved!

Also, it's important to note that AMD/ATI are lacking in their HDMI driver support.
