I am replacing my intel x25m 160gb, and I want a help forum!

what would be best for me?

    1 (one) intel 510 256gb ...
    or 2 (two) Samsungs 470 256GB in RAID 0?

    I thank ...

Depends on your usage. Either way, would not advise the RAID setup, the loss of trim will catch up to you eventually and you'll be wishing you hadn't done so.

If you are more about huge (several Gbs+) file moving, then go with the 510. If you want more of just surfing the web, word processor, stuff that isn't very dependent on sequential read/write speeds, then go for an SSD with higher random 4k read/write.

frequent use of day to day ... Nothing too large ...
and why not to raid 0?

With RAID 0, you don't have TRIM, and over time, your SSD performance will sink to below HDD levels. With a 256gb RAID 0, that might not be for a while, but it will happen eventually.

I would advise something with decently high Random read/write, like the intel 320 (sataII only sadly), crucial m4, c300, or OCZ vertex 3.

The last 3 are less reliable, but they are good performers. As you don't seem to need really high read/write, I think maximising your random read/write IOPs would be best.

Also, why on earth would you go 256gb raid 0? That cost must be through the roof

Killerbunny, sorry to contradict you fella but if you pickup sad's that are sand force based such as ocz vertex 2e's you still get a form of trim while using raid 0.

I think they call it garbage collection, just let the machine idle at the login screen for half hour or so when you want it to run.

I use 2 x 120gb OCZ Vertex 2e's myself and love them, in raid 0 they simply blitz anything out there, ok I admit I have had them since sept '10 so therevare some faster drives out there.

But as long as you go with a sand force based drive all should be fine.

Hope thats of some use guys.

My bad, I knew there was a trim thingy on all drives, just not sure how good it was. Most people say go HDD + SSD, unless you really need to speed.

    Thanks for correcting me.

GC is not the same as TRIM.

No, but my raided vertexes are still very fast even after months of use, must be doing something right.
