Hi all .. I have been having issues with my M17x R4 in that whenever I download from the internet either wireless or hard wired the download speed starts OK but then slows to an absolute crawl, most time I have to restart the download. There does not seem to be a link to the size of the download although small files download before the speed slows so is fine. I have done a complete re-install of the system including all drivers but this problem has not gone away. does anyone have any thoughts / suggestions as to what might be the problem? Many thanks for looking.

    hi Chas-Chapman,

Since you are seeing the same slowdown on both wired and wireless, that leads me to believe it is an external problem (not related to your M17xR4). Either the sites you are downloading from (you didn't specify) throttle downloads, or your Internet Provider throttles downloads. What you describe of them slowing down over time, sounds like ISP throttling. I suggest you contact your Internet provider and see if you have any data limitations such as you can only download x MBs per hour, or even X GBs per day. Some providers just put monthly caps, but I know that CableONE (small provider in the US) has a daily limit that if exceeded three days in row, results in throttling for a week. Good luck!

Hi Rich .. thanks for the post but I should have mentioned that I have checked out downloads with a different laptop and did not experience this issue so the ISP / router appear fine. The alienware is new to me and I had this issue on receipt hence why I did a fresh install, but it does not seem to have made a difference. Thanks again for response.
