Hi I am new to the forum, my name is Dustin Fickert, and I just purchased an Alienware m17x r2 off of a guy on Craigslist and he said that I just needed a new charger. The problem was that it would freeze when I plug in my charger. I got the laptop, and I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and then I had to purchase a driver software to download all of the drivers since I didn't exactly know what I was doing at the moment. Now the laptop works perfectly, except it still freezes when I plug in my charger. I haven't gotten a new charger yet but from what I have been reading, a lot of people say that may it is the order that I installed my drivers? Does anyone have a specific order to install drivers on our computers? And I have the ATI Radeon 5870 graphics card and i7 processor. If you need more info please ask. I need this laptop for college in about a month so I really need this issue resolved. Thanks!

    Dustin Fickert.

Doesn't sound like it is any driver issue. Will it start with the charger plugged in or does this happen all the time it is connected? Is the battery charging while it is plugged in but not in use?

If it freezes when you plug in charger it could be something is wrong with motherboard, dc socket, or even the charger itself.
Can you provide more info regarding the charger you currently using(i.e. model) + details of the freezing any bios messages about incompatibility?

I second this, also... I would try sending it to a repair shop or if it is in warranty to the DELL repair facility to have it fully checked.
