    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me hear as I'm having IMMENSE problems with these stupid driver updates. (stuck on old drivers from last year, 8.763 or something) - Was trying to install AMD Catalysts 8.93

    Methods Tried:
-Straight Install over previous drivers (failed)
-Uninstall drivers (express uninstall) and try to install after (failed)
-Go into safe mode, use driver sweeper to clear any AMD drivers after uninstall (failed)
-Throw computer through AMD's HQ windows (Planning has started).

Below is the latest report from when I tried to install drivers -

    Any ideas?

    Download DriverSweeper and CrapCleaner.
    Do an express uninstall.
Don't reboot, run DriverSweeper selecting Ati - Display and after Crap cleaner registry clean.
    Reboot.
    Run again DriverSweeper and CrapCleaner.
    Install drivers.

Also, be sure you're running the correct version of the installer, x64 and mobility version, and be aware that some people are having bsod problems on the latest drivers, so if you're getting a bsod as soon as the logon screen appears with a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION error then you're out of luck and need to revert back to working drivers, these should work.

No, once again same thing. Now I'm stuck without any drivers and the screen resolution as expected is out of whack.

What I did: (after going to device manager and uninstalling the display drivers manually, then restarting computer)

1st - Uninstall program through control panel (express uninstall everything).
2 - Restart comp and go into safe mode
3 - Use driver sweeper to clear away any remaining AMD/ATI files.
4 - Use Crap Cleaner to remove registry errors
5 - (optional step I used 2nd/3rd time around when it didnt worK) Use Windows Install Clean up to remove any AMD/CCC files
    5 - Restart
6 - Try to install new drivers through autorun from latest update.

Other option provided to me was:
You have to force the driver
-go back into device manager (done)
    -select the default display (done)
    -update driver (done)
    -then manual update (done)
-then point to the directory the driver is located (done)
and find the inf file (done, but here's where I get stuck! Basically I navigated to the W76A_INF file within the new drivers folder to find the drivers, and when I opened that folder within the manual update, it bloody told me the drivers were already up to date! )
-it will ask if u wanna install unsigned driver
    -choose yes and ur done
    -then reboot
-rerun installer and install CCC + other

Hi, did you try using a modded inf ?
I had the same card as you (single) in my previous comp and never had a problem.
Only had once this problem, the card was damaged...
Did you try installing drivers with only one card ?
    Hope this helps...

There have been reports from several people here with 4870 and 5870 xfire that these ones install when the previous 11.10s and 11.11 WSQL would not. Give it a try.

Aren't the 11.11 driver's the ones with the Endless loop BSOD problem? Thats why I was going for 8.93 ones

Are you referring to the 11.11 WHQL's? The ones I linked are the 11.11a's. I'm not aware of endless loop issues. I'm running these (the ones i linked above) and they are working perfectly fine in Skyrim. Fixed a few texture issues too

I'm not sure, but I read the lastest official ones from AMD were giving off endless BSOD loops. BTW, I just thought I'd point out that at no point in the last like 7 months have I been able to perfectly update the drivers. So Im at a standstill point now.

Say again? Are you suggesting a install of the stock dell drivers now? Just clarifying what you said.

yes, go to the dell site and download the drivers listed for your computer (btw, i just went there and they are really OLD). Then install over them with new drivers.

you can also try disabling crossfire while install the drivers. Shouldn't make a difference theoretically, but you're stuck bad. We have to eliminate everything we possibly can that could be causing this failure

Think I'll just call Dell Morgor and let them deal with it. Hopefully a new system can be found for me :p (wishful thinking yes, but oh well).

EIther way, I don't doubt there actually is a way for me to fix this.. we're just not seeing it.

Folks, my M17xR3 arrived last Thursday and I had to use the Dell drivers when I reformatted as the system would not accept the 11.11 drivers from ATI/AMD.

I obviously would prefer to keep my video driver up-to-date, so can someone (maybe SlickDude80) confirm that this is indeed possible with a 6990m graphics card? First time I have ever ran into this problem, but can/will try the suggestions in this thread.

    Good luck to the threadstarter.

    hi TargetSlayer,

I'm currently running the 11.11a's in my system. And before that, the 11.10's WHQL. My system takes all these drivers.

    here are a few hints:

-- Turn off Windows UAC while installing driver
-- Install the dell default drivers and install over with the new drivers from AMD
-- Make sure that you are NOT using the intel integrated drivers when you install the new AMD drivers
-- If you bsod during installation, reboot, often times, the driver install continues successfully after

    Good luck! :D

Hello again SlickDude80. I followed your advice but still receive the following error: "The version of your graphics adapter is not supported." I am using the latest driver from Dell. Any further help would be appreciated. Btw this was the same error/problem when I tried to install from scratch (i.e., no ATI/AMD drivers).

It seems Dell will send over a technical person with spare 5870's tomorrow to check up what the issue seems to be. One of the video card drivers keeps crashing.

I've tried both of those Rev. No dice. It's a installation problem so far.

My drivers look like this now - Drivers on Twitpic And this is what I get when I try to manually install the display drivers from the new files - VGA Fail on Twitpic (the W76A_INF files) (even the W7_INF) doesn't change anything.

I had a similar problem to what you have seen and was running on drivers that were a year old, 10.11. None of the drivers I tried all the way up to the 11.11 would install. SlickDude posted those same drivers for me a couple days back and they worked like a charm. No BSODs, no errors, everything is running great. The only comment I have on the drivers, is that for some strange reason, even though I have 2x4870s, when playing Skyrim it will only use one card. CF is enabled and I can launch any other game and it runs on both cards (WoW, Starcraft, EVE, Portal 2, etc...). This isn't exactly a problem because we know that AMD is dragging it's feet about getting Skyrim CF support and I am getting better frame rates on the 11.11a drivers with one card than I did with the 10.11 divers on 2 cards. Did anyone else using the 11.11a drivers notice this?

SlickDude80 and any others having trouble updating their driver for 6990m, unless you see something obvious, I understand from trolling over at the Dell forums that a new Dell driver is expected very shortly.

Since I am not experiencing any problems, I will just wait for Dell and hopefully will be able to update these 3+ month old drivers soon.

While I am currently playing Shogun 2 Total War with no apparent problems, I did try out Skyrim and the game seemed fine on Ultra or High with 8xAA/16AF with these older drivers.

    Regards

Think it's the best you can do, indeed if they can't find why your computer does not work they may offer you a replacement system if they are out of 5870's. Good luck !

Did want to point out btw thanks to Joker I managed to solve the problem. One of the cards was acting up but it's all good now (even though the AMD CCC installer still doesn't isntall properly, most of the stuff are on the comp).
