I am not sure how this happened but there is dust inside my screen...I was under the impression the LCD and panel was one piece and now notice that the top kind of bends back exposing a little bit of the LCD.
It is NOT a stuck/bad pixel, the picture makes it seem like that but it isn't.

I have the same problem. I believe the panel has a protective plastic edge to edge covering so the dust is probably in that. Here's a link to the thread I started. http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/574523-my-m17x-r3-screen-qc-issue.html

Rawr, this kinda sucks,
On another topic, does the invisishield for the m17x that is being sold fit on the r3 we have? The top keeps getting dirty =/ -
I wonder if you can get a replacement screen for this issue?
-
Someone else did apparently...I'll wait on it, I only noticed it because I was an inch from the screen for a second during bootup.
-
I'm trying to get a replacement for this issue. I got a complete exchange done and the exchange still had dirt.
-
-
I also found another spec of dust on the screen protector and an actual dead pixel. Will it be a hassle getting them to replace it or do they know this isn't up to standards and replace it without a hassle?

@dookie I suggest you read the terms of warranty you bought with the system and you'll find all your answers. As for replacement systems they can be issued at Dells discretion , normally after a number of interventions that didn't fix the customer's issue or when in the impossibility to fix it as long as you're covered by the warranty. Hope this answers your previous question

Edit: Also, should I be calling Dell USA or Dell Canada? Thanks
Edit 2: I called Dell Canada and they said they would replace my LCD and assembly or give me a new system, I chose to have just my LCD replaced but I had to transfer the warranty to International first. Now I've gotta wait at least a week. -
That's nuts replacement instead of LCD panel.

I received my replacement R3, and one of the speakers has the famous static/crackle going on. So I just swapped lids with my original and presto, no more dead pixels!
-
You got to keep your old M17x R3 while they shipped you a new one?
-
The only issue with my first one was several dead/stuck pixels, so I just swapped out the entire LCD assembly. Wasn't too bad if you follow the service manual. -
-
Did they ship you a whole new machine or just the panel?
Did they charge or put a hold on your CC? Thanks. -

It seems like defective during manufacturing and I think they should clean the screen to remove the dusts/dirts instead of replacement.
I means when someone is build the laptop so dust went stuck in before they insert the screen. -
I think this is happening a bit too often.
-
I'm really hope that my notebook won't get any dust because I hate to send back to Dell, jeez. -
So the tech came to replace my panel today and I was very disappointed. He was a very nice knowledgeable guy himself but was not too familiar with the laptop. He had to look a the manual he had in his laptop in order to follow the correct procedure. He ended up replacing the panel properly but I turned on my laptop only to find out they sent me a 1600x900 lcd rather than the 1080p one I should have received. I had heard that his happened to other people too so that is why the first thing I checked was the lcd res, even though I could notice it was not 1080p during boot up. Another interesting note, the tech also spent some time on the phone with a dell tech because we noticed the original panel had a part that the the new one didn't have, turns out we found out because the different lcds. But anyways this part is what lights up the alien head on the lid on the 1080p screen, it is something separate from the lcd backlighting itself. On the other hand the 1600x900 screen uses the lcd backlight to light the alienhead. Looks like they could have easily had the option to have a changeable alienhead colour on the 1080p screens but didn't because the 1600x900 screens can't. And btw anyone who is wondering 1600x900 screen vs 1080p screen, the 1080p screen absolutely blows the 1600x900 screen away. Easily worth the $150 extra, I'd pay even more than that to have the 1080p after really seeing the difference.

Update: I finally received the correct 1080p panel today! The first time they sent a panel replacement all they sent was the LCD assembly. I guess they felt bad that they screwed me over so I received a new LCD assembly, new webcam, new panel that surrounds keyboard and they were even gonna replace my lid but they sent the Nebula Red one by mistake. My lid is perfect anyways so no biggies. The only problem I have now is that the webcam is not being detected and it is plugged in correctly and everything so they said it was a software/driver issue. They are sending me the Dell Webcam 2.0 software and they also threw in FastAccess facial recognition software for free. I am still gonna call and try to get free stuff after it took a month for their NBD in-home service to change my parts.
-
Funny they plugged in my new LCD as well and the webcam didn't work either. I dissassembled and checked the cables, still no good. They're sending me a new R3.
-
-
I was there to comfort you remember?
But yeah they don't just dispense new computers for everything; they just ended up changing so many parts they just went "Well F this its just easier to send a new one". They never could fix the flickering.
I found a buyer for the new m17x I got so I'll be selling and joining the m18x ranks. -
