I gave alienware a call and they are sending some one over by tue to replace my R2's RGB display. I have few questions here guys:
1. Will I be getting a new or a refurbished one. What are the chances?
2. According to hwinfo32 I have J2CY8€170CT, this one is the latest revision for rgb correct?
3. okey so what all are included in this display which they bring... I read somewhere that it wouldn't include few things and I have to replace those from my old one...

Dont quote me on it, but if your system was new when purcahsed, you should get a new replacement and NOT a refurb screen....if you bought refurb, chances are you would get refurb.
Yes, I believe Joker identified that screen code as the latest version of the rgbled....i seem to recall checking mine and it tallied (using Astra32 system tool)
As for the "fitting" of it, it may be the case that they utilise some of the ribbon cables that are on your current system rather than replace them as technically, there wont be anything wrong with them....
I would double check all this with AW tech support so you know whats getting replaced, with what, when the guy turns up. If the parts look refurb'd and you have been told different, I wouldnt let them fit it...insist on new if thats what you have been told.
Hope that helps mate! -

One of the things that a new screen assembly doesn't include is the webcam as that is a separate part number.

It's hard to tell. If they have refurbs in stock, you might get one. The older a machine and its components are, the more likely you'll get a refurb. The system is what's covered so the new/refurb status of a component part really doesn't matter from that perspective.
Now, if you ask and the guy tells you you'll be getting a new part and you get a refurb, complain. If the tech pulls the part out and it looks obviously refurbed and not perfect (e.g., screen damage), don't let him put it in.
The RGBLED screen info is covered in the "best upgrade" thread... -
Thanks guys... I will any ways open it up before he comes... hate to get even the slightest scratch... guess removing web cam isnt all that hard... will let you guys know what happens..

Okey here is the update: He came in with a refurbished display(but looked alright with no scratch or smudge"... so I let him fit it in... but it didnt fit in properly in that it had 2mm gap on the upper edge where the glass meets the black plastic piece which is attached to the back panel.... I wansnt happy with that.. and they will be sending an entire display unit(display + back panel) tomorrow... hmmm... and now my graphics card isnt working alright... 3dmark06 from ~15k to ~11k... called in and some will give me a call back... meanwhile I checked the inside to see if there was any problem with the crossfire cable or the graphics card placement (as the engineer was in a hurry coz his parking time was running out...CANT BELIEVE IT!!!)... well I couldnt find any... and before you ask... Its not on stealth and yes cfx is active (both the gfx cards are getting hot too)... all this when I am planning to go out of the country for an year early feb... hmm
Ho BTW: the refurbished display came with everything including the webcam.... it was a simple swap... -

Wow, that dont sound too good regarding the 3dmark scores does it? - dunno what he could have done to botch that up for you - maybe unseated one of the gpu's??? - ive heard those c/f cables are extremely fragile too so maybe he has "knicked" it somehow??....
Very odd, hope you get it sorted fella, is the screen ok now tho? -
screen is fine mate but there is a gap and it makes cracking noise while opening and closing... well its okey anyways as they will be bringing in a new assembly tomorrow.... hope this time he doesnt cut through the crossfire cable to get the display swapped to save his £2.50 parking fee... arghhh..

Is that what he did? knacker your cf cable? (thought it may have been that)....I would be swearing at him next time lol.....and if the screen job isnt perfect next time round i would be after some bloodspillin'
Fancy that, him saying, i gotta go, im on a meter! - id have tossed him 50p and said "there ya go, top it up and see ya in a few"....cheeky sod! -
Lol.... Well I really really hope tomorrow he brings in a RED lid with a perfect display. I do not have the time to wait for a replacement system now.... Fingers crossed.... Btw I took everything apart once more and repackaged and now it seems to be working. Well I am getting 14.3k in 3dmark06(with some bg processes like norton 360 and such. )... So that seems sorted. Will keep 3£ handy in case he is fastforwarding ;-)

Cool....you could do with one of those remote controls like in the Adam Sandler film "click"....just pause and rewind him if he is about to leave the building!
Again, let us know how you get on! -
Todays update: Nothing happened!! .... Lady called in the morning to let me know that some one would be coming in the after noon... and no one came...

No doubt that the tech couldnt even be bothered getting his car out this time, never mind getting some time on the parking meter
Hope they get you sorted soon fella.
