Yesterday, I received my bd-rom drive from ebay and decided that i will put it in the system. After i finished everything, i turn my computer on and test the drive. I put the first disk in and there is no sign, i try to eject the disk but the drive say there is no disk in side. So i put another disk in to see what happen and i got 2 in there. I opened up the laptop again and get the disk out. I put everything back in and i was rushing at the screen cable. I try hard to get the cable in place and there were some weird sounds that come out of the cable and the plug. After everything was in place, i turn the computer on and received a screen that flash with stripe everywhere and the fans when it turn on run faster and louder and longer than usual.
I just finished talking with an agent of dell and they say the price for them to fix the computer is 528 plus tax. I was wondering if anybody in nbr forum could point out the problem and there is anyway a cheaper place to fix the computer or should i go with dell and a 528 price. Thank you

Have you tried reseating the cable? I've seen this before and the fact that you had trouble putting it back together and were in a hurry could be jus abad connection. If you decide to try to fix it, TAKE YOUR TIME. Bet you will next time. Never pays to get in a hurry.
Like they say-“There’s never enough time to do it right, but there is always enough time to do it again” -
Patience is a virtue when disassembling your alienware. I've gotten so caught up checking certain components, I've forgotten to plug in my Crossfire bridge/display ribbon many times.

i did open it up again to check the cable
i checked the cable a couple of time and the same problem happen, i even lost the latch that hold the alienhead cable with the computer. I have to use tape to hold the cable in place in order to turn the computer on. I connect the computer with another display but there is still nothing on the other display

p/s i just reinstall the window so there is no driver on it yet

Ever tried to talk someone through a car repair over the phone? Try to tell someone how to cook pancakes for the first time over text msgs?? Get my point??? Pictures and as much info as you can get us. Still sounds like your cable to me-not seated properly or damaged. -

how do i change the cable if it is damage. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. Thanks for all the reply

here is some pics, i just receieved a quote from a dell sale professional and it said 347 in the email for an extended warantty. I called dell up just a minute ago and ask the guy about the quote. He said the quote wont cover my current problem but will cover all my future problems. He also said that i have to pay 582 for a full recover and an extended warantty for a year. Im trying to buy only the warantty then get them to fix the problem but i dont know if they notice or they care if i do that. Can you guy give me an idea on this. Or should i go with best buy geek squad?

Was the battery out when you were attaching the cable? If you heard a noise while attaching, it sounds like you may have shorted something if the battery was still attached in which case it may be more than the cable...
-
I doubt it's the ribbon cable, looks like partially cracked LCD screen or the graphics card isn't seated fully.
-
I didnt touch the graPhic card at all, i will try to reseat the gc and try to see what happen. The battery was out when i try to attach the cable. I put it in after attached the cable.

I just took the computer apart for the fifth time and removed both of my graphic card then out the computer back together, the screen still had the same problem. I am thinking about replacing e screen by myself cause it seem to me that it is not the graphic cards that cause the problem. I just reinstall my window before this happened so I have no driver for the graphic cards. If I change my screen, what screen should I buy, could any one give me a code number or a type of screen that would be compatible to the m17x r1? What is the best option I can have?
