I'm looking for a great deal on an R4 so I'm scouring everywhere. I run across this, which really pisses me off. Hopefully no one from here is falling for this crap.
From Canada: 8 bids, $255 for a pamphlet that probobly could be summerized by "buy refurbished off e-bay or call and haggle with the Dell rep". Grief, just read NBR! It wouldn't surprise me if that's where they got their information for the 'guide'.
Hey look! I found another one! , this one from Australia. Starting bid is $899.99! Tiny print says "The laptop is not included. Please note that no refunds will be given whatsoever. and that this is only a guide on buying the Alienware Laptop through MSRP."

just a couple of donkey's trying to deceive people with what they're advertising... a guide for buying an AW is just stupid... hopefully people will realize their mistake.
-
If you have so much money that you can waste it buying a pamphlet like that on ebay, you probably don't need to haggle...
-
I'll take both.

Good catch. I reported both items to eBay before someone gets screwed out of several hundred dollars.

while there are scams on ebay like this, I don't think it should entirely alienate people from buying or looking for alienware laptops on ebay. I personally bought my computer through ebay, and got it tax free and $350 of the dell website price ($300 off phone call rep price), so it could be a good opportunity. But obvious things to observe are.
-read every part of description thoroughly and carefully, like you are taking a test (DO NOT SKIM OVER IT). If you do this and they try to pull something unexpected, like damage or not mentioning something, you will get a full refund from paypal (the only way you should pay), and they almost always side with the buyer not seller.
-pay close attention to sellers feedback. Obviously look for good and high satisfaction ratings (def. above 98%). But also see what items had negative feedback, it may be a customer who purchased an alienware laptop. Also look to see if same product was sold and has positive feedback.
-also look at sellers who have actually sold a large number of items, if it is someone who sold like 10 things, than be wary and try to avoid it, and I would never buy from a seller with zero feedback/zero sold.
Again ebay can be a good opportunity to get the same thing for cheaper but you need to be attentive and meticulous, not daydreaming and careless (not trying to say anything offensive against anyone who did get ripped off on ebay, it happened to me before and it could happen to anyone) -

I did report them as well, but who really bids without reading the whole listing when we're talking about items going for over $1000.
The guy selling these must be shill bidding or fake bidding or something.
I really can't believe anyone really would bid on one of these. -
Reported them all.
