i will be putting one ssd and a hd in my new m17x(which will be ordered soon)
...but this leaves me wondering, wat can i do with the empty mSATA slot ? any ideas ?

Is there an mSATA slot aside from 2 Hard drive bays...I am confused now?
-
i believe so yes.....
if you go assembling the laptop on Dell
it shows an option to assemble one with 64GB msata and a 750 (?rpm) drive, AND THEN there is the option to add another drive -
That's right. Two HDD/SSD bays and an mSATA slot. If an SSD is being used as the system drive, I don't see any good reason to have an mSATA SSD also.

I too have a msata slot I want to fill, but it's hard to find a sata3 msata out there.

AnandTech - Micron C400 mSATA (128GB) SSD Review
Newer mSATA perform as good as normal SATA SSD
That way you can use m.SATA SSD for OS and dual HD for your content if you need the space -
Where can you buy one? -
But with more desktop motherboards releasing now with mSATA slots and newer laptops with mSATA slot these will be popular soon -
Hmm still cannot find it on this machine. Anyone else having luck??

I'm actually tying to get people to help me make an Amazon pricematch work in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m14x/663431-msata-m14xr2.html
It's for a pretty decent, SATA II 64GB mSATA drive. $76. I'd appreciate any help getting it pricematched!
As for putting on in the M17X, I feel it's a bit of a waste, since mSATA cost about 2x as much as normal SSDs. -
Well I have one here to use so I can have 3 hard drives in my machine. Just wondering where is the slot.
