I don't intend for this to be a sad tale or anything but I've been the biggest Alienware fanboy for a while now, (Perhaps an Alienware Aficionado if you will) almost never giving up any of my Alienware PC's and creating an Absurd collection but about sometime this year I noticed although I had all of these alienware PC's my actual usage on the PC's (Gaming was on the large decline :( ) I was never a benchmark kind of person as I'd rather benchmark my Supra TT and dyno that then to sit and fidget with what type of a score my PC could bring, perhaps because of the real world affects of seeing a sports car go Zoom was alot more tangible then seeing my PC go Zoom, as it was literally just some number for me.

Perhaps I'm getting too old, I don't know, I'm still in my 20's though, but my postings on the board have been Straight up on the Decline (First post since maybe June which is unusual for me) And my collection of alienwares have just been collecting dust, literally.

I literally don't touch any of these anymore, and the common question that has been buzzing amongst my friends and people at the workplace has been What Happened? Well I think the worst part was I picked up a Girlfriend and then she gave me her 15" Macbook Pro, and I just started being consumed with just wondering what my next vacation was doing work, and even her school work and after several months of this my taste for playing videogames and messing around with my alienwares have sadly gone off the deep end. The Cautionary Tale I tell you today is one that is basically saying that be very careful about getting a girlfriend and especially careful if she hands over a Mac to you cause I was definitely one of those individuals that everyone would have assumed hated Macs and would never be caught dead using a Mac. Man I wish I could say this is all a joke, but the sad part is I write all of this using the Mac Book Pro. I think you'll be seeing my Alienware going up on the chopping block in the For Sale section here pretty soon, especially if I all of a sudden need the Cash, which fortunately I don't necessarily need atm.

Well this is farewell, and my last post for a while, but I just wanted to warn others of the dangers that can lay ahead.

    Take Care All....

I'm the complete opposite. Always used desktops. Got the m17x to use for "work" and when possible firing up a game so I don't get beat down by my wife for doing it at home :D

That's kind of ironic. I got an Alienware and my wife instantly wanted it!

She also wants to play games lol. So now she has my M11x and I'm looking at other laptops and she's all for it.

My "unfortunate" problem is my desktop runs everything smooth, so I have to talk myself into something I don't need. I'm money conscious even though buying a laptop wouldn't hurt me right now.

    Stupid wants.

Having a girlfriend didn't change anything about my love for gaming or powerhouse computers. . . . . I don't try to conform my identity to match what my girlfriend wants and I don't expect my girlfriend to do that either. We like each other for who we are - not for who we aren't.

Dont be too hasty. Most women are great to begin with but you'll soon be crying for some hardcore gaming, trust me. I think most gamers have gone through a stage of changing there priorityies when a bit of decent skirt arrives on the scene. And its great, untill you marry them............. :D

Interesting. Never heard of that before. Luckily my girlfriend hates him just as much as I do. I think she just likes the color purple.

But anyways... back to the matter at hand. Having a girlfriend should in no way impact how much time you can devote to games. And if it does then she isn't the right person for you. Your girlfriend should respect what it is you like to do, regardless of what that is, just as much as you respect what it is she likes to do. It's part of accepting each other.

Believe it or not, I never even used to play video games-- my girlfriend of about 4 years now actually introduced me to them. She started me off with WoW, then got me to play a few FPS, along with Oblivion. Now we spend a significant amount of our time together playing games.

You know the thing is that having a girlfriend does change you, just in ways you wouldn't really at first imagine or first realize.

You see what happened was I analysed my social group that I was hanging out with playing games with and then made a conscience decision to make a change or an adjustment. That's what happens when you're with someone you wanna experience growth or change in a positive manner. You all of a sudden seek inspiration in different areas and before you know it you're off doing something else. So you start working out maybe so you're better in bed or something. And then you're changing your eating habits all of a sudden, and then the next thing you know you've changed your lifestyle. And it's not necessarily because you had a girlfriend or not but you wanted to experience some form of change or an improvement. I'm Asian go figure it's what we do, we get good at something and then move on to the next thing until we're good at that, and then we're onto the next. :p ;)

I wouldn't trade anything to be anything CLOSE to Bieber. I wanna be a Ninja and Biber is no Ninja.

I actually gave up gaming for a girlfriend once, as well. Gaming seemed so unimportant and silly with her in my life - much bigger and better things to do.

Relationships sometimes end - video games sometimes make a comeback. Don't sell every rig, man.

I game less, but I still game. It great when you can get both at once. Despite my occasional gaming, she still decided to marry me :p . She's more into Wii games, and console games, but we don't have any consoles. Mostly play at friends or the in-laws. Maybe I should get one? Probably be a PS3 if I did. It's great when you get a great girl, and she doesn't ask you to change. Granted I'd rather spend time with her than gaming, but when we game together, there is a ton of trash talk. Nothing like having your wife trash talk you over a game of Wii Mario Party, or Wii Sports. It's strangely arousing :p

    Arousing? LOL!

Yeah, I keep looking for the right game to try to rope in my fiance and get her at least semi-interested. She's pretty awesome in that she will listen to me and ACT interested when i talk abotu tech stuff and gaming, but I know she's secretly wanting me to STFU :)

Wondering if she might play SW:TOR with me. Also planning on trying Portal 2 with her. I bought Kirby for Wii as a last resort...

Well, on a different note, I am in the same boat. However mine is not so much of a computer, or even a girlfriend, but a child.

I bought the m17x with the intentions of upgrading it to a GTX 580 when it came out. However that turned out to be too expensive so I sent it back so I get the m17x 3D with the GTX 580.

However now, with my wife and I going back to work I need to pay for daycare. Daycare costs are insane, but we managed to find a friend who will take care of him for several hundred per month.

With that said, I doubt I will be rocking a m17x, or any alienware soon, but maybe in the future. Don't get me wrong, I will get a laptop, but it won't be anything special. I may need to sell my 2011 Ford Fusion Sport (new lease) to make ends meet though.

I mean seriously, how can a alienware compare to this little guy anyway...

Even if/when I were to get married and if/when I were to have a kid, I can't see myself dropping my GigaFlop addition.

If I had more spare cash, most of the money I channel into gaming would go into cars though. I like driving fast cars way too much lol, and once I start making real money I can see that possibly becoming a problem haha. But right now, throwing a few hundred here or there at a laptop, is more economical than buying a 2 grand turbo kit for my MazdaSpeed Protege. :/

Hey Loki, thanks for the great advice. I totally get what you mean, man. I've had pretty much the same thing happen to me, but not so much over computers (yet). And in my case, I ended up with (and still have) a serious two-bagger girlfriend and she didn't give me anything nearly as useful as a Macbook; I didn't do nearly as well as you did, and she's costing me money. And my car... OMG it's a "piece." Respect!

Thanks guys, but it's not so funny when you wake up next to her, her makeup all rubbed off on the bed (which I will probably have to wash) to reveal the sad truth in the morning light, and are marveling at how the doctor figured out which end of her to slap when she popped out of her mother. Then she asks you to go to Starbucks and buy her even more stuff to put down her gullet! But to augment Loki's advice, I have indeed discovered that most smart people will not find fulfillment in any one thing for very long. You'll want to try other stuff pretty quickly. I spent so much money going crazy into various hobbies and interests, and nearly every time I ended up kinda bored, and then looked back over where I had been and wondered why I got so crazy about it. Alright, I'm digressing. But I still love my Alien and play with it every single day.

Wow, way to compliment yourself there, buddy. So I guess every scientist, doctor, super-nerdy hobbyist, just isn't really that smart? To me it sounds like you have a bit of ADD and dismiss it with a self-compliment :)
