This issue has been plaguing since initial release...The HDD0 slot randomly switches from 6Gbit to 3Gbit and back depending on when you boot it up. Completely random it seems. Did Dell or anyone ever actually fix this?

    Unfortunately not, LV.
The only fix, remedy, or whatever you want to call it, that they came up with was to limit the M17x R3 bandwidth to 3Gb/s (SATA II) on both HDD0 & HDD1 ports with the latest BIOS versions and continue to advertise the system as SATA II capable only.

If you want SATA III speeds, you'll have to stick to BIOS A08 (both Dell official and unlocked versions) or A10 unlocked version (in which SATA behavior is the same as with A08 version) thanks to svl7 & the bios-mods community.

I agree with Katalin_2003 in this, the only fix that was released for that was to limit the speed on the port.

They admitted that it wasnt a stable feature. Its wrong for them to actually give up just like that and tell R3 owners to just live with it. This is a definite winnable class suit. Misleading and then forced to accept.

Did anyone try out the LPM registry tweak for this issue?

It only fixes that Vertex 3 freezing issue unfortunately.

Well I just avoided installing the Intel Rapid Storage driver and I had zero Sata speed issues throughout the 2 R3 motherboards that I went through. Port0 Sata 6GB/s all the time. As soon as I installed IRST, boom downclocked speeds and uninstalling it didn't help. So clean installation, no IRST is the way to go.

One bloody hiccup and the peasants are lighting and passing out torches. ;)

In any event, you'd have to prove damages. And that might be a real chore.

There is no issue present if the problem was discovered after posting the advertised feature. Depending on the nature of the issue it may not be resolved in any way other than dropping the speed back. Unless you are running SSD you are unlikely to see any impact and even if you are running SSD... well I dunno.

    try running i raid0 ssd on A08.
i had serious stability issues, when upgrading bios where dell disables the SATA3 completely it was stable.
But then again if you buy a machines with advertised SATA3 on both ports it should work.. dell is unable to solve this.
in my case i got an R4 as replacement for my R3.
