Expected release date for m17x R4? since I cant buy my alienware till like may anyway so I was just curious when the R4 will be released
-

Best bet is when Ivy bridge hits the market.
-
there's rumors that AW may discontinue the M17x and replace it with M18x R2!
if this is right then they should release a M16x! I don't want to play on 14" screen! -
Really?? Some more info on that?
-
it was by a known facebook user claimed to work for dell in AW page! I didn't bothered myself for the details! though I really hope this is just rumors!
-
m15.6x
I'd buy it if sported a 1080p screen.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Hope the M18x isn't that much bigger than the m17x. I like being able to take it to class pretty easily
-
Ya my R3 is a good size for college. Luckily I'm in grad school, so we don't have to cram ourselves in lecture hall seating. Wouldnt mind upgrading to a smaller gaming lappy though that has all same hardware as R3.
-
R3 will be R4 in Q1 2012. Still single GPU, but redesign of the exterior.
-
Aluminum matte white exterior????? I'm down.
-
Heh, I went from gaming on a 23" + to gaming on an m14x and love it.
I think and I don't think it's debatable actually, technology is moving toward smaller form factors and more TINY components with STRONGER power, with the advent of the new nanotechnologies spawning from the advancement of sciences like quantum mechanics (thank Max Planck).
So, even now, desktops are declining while laptops are on the rise. But many trends-forecasters are even saying that laptops will be obsolete soon due to the advent of the "touch-pads" technology.
It is true, we are headed toward a technological singularity.
Oh ok I kind of went off-topic there. -
Considering the heat of the m14x, I don't see it possible to pack the hardware, which the only difference is only the GPU vs m17x r3 in the m14x. (they both can achieve the i7 2820 option).
I mean, the m14x gets very hot with just i7 + GT555m in its 14" form factor.
It seems like power of computing technology has increased with LITTLE to NO advancement on cooling technologies.
I mean, look at dyson. They created the fan that uses magnetic charge to propel air without use of blades.
The can be incorporated into computers systems for more efficient cooling (no chop of air) and no use of fans thus less dust build up
Anyone entrepreneurs here want to put some money down and build up some proto-type gaming computers with me with this technology? -

Yessir! Like that sir! Except I'd like the whole body to be matte white.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Ill stick to the jet black, looks more dangerous
-
Well, if they make a good small 14x or a 15.6x, I wouldn't mind a classy white one
Say, is the 14x rubberized or aluminum? -
I'd expect the M17x R4, (along with the M14x R2 and M18x R2) in the middle of 2012, whenever Ivy Bridge chips are officially released.
AW sometimes makes such announcements months in advance, so early next year (maybe even January at CES), there might be official word on the release, and even specs to go with it.
Pretty sure it will just be the same exact thing as the R3, just with an Ivy Bridge CPU, Nvidia 600 series/ AMD 7000 series GPUs, and perhaps improved graphics switching and native USB 3.0 support.
I doubt there will be an exterior redesign, since the R3 (and M14x/M18x) design is still just one generation old, just a tweak of the eariler one though.
The next generation after that might see a redesign, or some major shakeup of the product line. -
Released when its released...
