    hi all,

I bought a new mouse (Steelseries kinzu v2 pro) and encounter the folowing issue :

When booting my m17x r4 there is a 50 % chance the laser doesnt go on (even in bios) and I cant move the mouse in windows.
When i unplug it and replug it in the same/other usb in windows i hear the "plug sound" but still no laser on my mouse.

now the weird part (and the fix lol) :

whenever this occurs I can take my old mouse, plug it in (works immediately) and plug it out , now the kinzu mouse works perfect

so it seems i need my other mouse to get this one alive, like it doesnt get enough power and my old mouse gives the usb ports more power or something ...
it cant be a driver issue because the same stuff happens pre-windows

anyone any any idea whats going on here ?

Checked your BIOS settings? USB emulation, USB Power share and i cant remember something else, have you tried plugging it into the powershare (esata/usb) port?

No I havent checked my BIOS settings yet because all other USB-devices work normally
Is it possible the kinzu mouse needs more power or something ?

My diamondback had similar issues, not 50% but still sometimes i wouldt go on, after some research i founded then it was a problem with the mouse and windows.

When you put the mouse in a other pc or laptop, is the problem still there?
Maybe your mouse isnt 100% ok.

Well you say it works after you plug another mouse so it hsould be ok. Must be some sort of software/hardware issue where its not given enough power. I think the maximum power output is 1000mA, basically enough to charge an iPhone but not enough to charge an iPad.

hmm I also found this from steelseries but dont know if this is bs :

    Hello,

Mike from SteelSeries support here. I just wanted to provide some clarification into the situation with the boot issue that you have experienced. We are now aware that the products supporting the new USB 3.0 interface may experience issues with the boot sequence, as well as create "flickering" power issues with certain USB devices. USB 3.0 is designed to selectively power devices based on usage and this may be causing a multitude of issues not only with our SteelSeries Xai mouse, but with many legacy USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices. The current theory for our specific case is that since the SteelSeries Xai has to do with the mouse being recognized as two HID devices (one for basic mouse function, second for macros). Since the second HID device is selectively utilized, the USB 3.0 power features may be attempting to power down one of the logical HID devices and not the other, which may bug the mouse's processing/reporting unit. This is only a theory and we are making efforts to further test and diagnose the issue.

Is there a native USB 2.0 port on the R4 so I can plug the mouse in there ?

You may also try booting it on the 2.0 ports.
