Been looking for an answer for days, and it seems that I'm getting no where.

Bottom line is that I'm looking for a laptop that will do it all for me, which means gaming AND the ability to connect at least 2 external monitors (+ the laptop screen) and preferably three external monitors (+ laptop screen) for the graphics work I do. While it's nice to have all the monitors going in a game, I want to be able to use the extra external monitors for things as mundane as web surfing, and as important to me as Photoshop (among other graphics programs). I think I saw a 17x R3 on YouTube doing this, but nothing for the newest R4.

I'm currently returning an HP Envy 17t 3200 for a full refund because HP advertised that it CAN do this, while in fact it CANNOT (and this pained me, as the Envy 17 was such a sleek platform). So I don't plan on making the mistake of buying a laptop twice that won't do what I need it to do.

So...any input on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

The R4 is fully capable of running 3 external monitors and the internal. For outputs there is one HDMI, one VGA and one Display Port, exactly the same layout of the R3. So yes, you can use two or three external monitors with the R4

"Capable of" is what HP said. We could review how that turned out. As far as the 17R4, has anyone done it?

Aren't there a few Alienware techs who hang out on the forum? What do they say?

You just need to follow what AMD says you need to get it working.

Thanks for the reply. From what I'm reading, it would be a lot easier if the displayport hubs (DP>multiple DP) were available.
