    Hi guys,

I'm a bit at my wits end here. Don't know quite the reason why I'm getting lower fps than what notebookcheck.com shows for the GTX 660M.
Yes I know huge mistake not getting the 7970M, but I really didn't have the extra 300 bucks.

Anyways I'm getting 15 fps on skyrim ultra settings and only 50 fps on starcraft 2 ultra settings as well.

My desktop which has only a Radeon 6800 1GB video card out performs this 2GB card -_-.

I downloaded the latest NVIDIA drivers using the service tag on my alienware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None really as the 660M is midrange for laptops so it won't run more demanding games like Metro, Crysis, and Skyrim on ultra.

GTX660M = lower than desktop GTX550Ti, and a 68xx series desktop card easily outperforms it. 2 GB video RAM at that level is really pointless.

I completely agree with you guys, but I would still expect to see what notebookcheck.com states for the fps of the 660M. So what is causing these discrepancies?

I ran the 3D Mar test. My score was
    3DMark Score
    4552 3DMarks
    Graphics Score
    3604
    CPU Score
    21612
    Score
    P4552 3DMarks

Also It said my drivers is not approved. could that be the problem?

Nikelaren, are you running the exact same game settings as they are in notebookcheck?

Yes, i think its faulty graphics card. On my first boot up of this computer it said that the graphics card was not working properly (Code 43). Returning this for a new one. Getting the 7970M this time.

    Returning: good idea.

Buying this machine with a 660m is as crazy as buying a Ferarri with a 4-cylinder engine.

According to notebookcheck for SC2 you should be getting about 42 FPS on Ultra, which you are getting more. And for Skyrim, it states about 28 FPS, which you are a bit below. You have to take into account they are using average FPS, so you may be dipping really low because you are checking during an intense scene. The 660M is not that powerful of a card, and with its specs, isn't meant to run most games at Ultra settings.

Returning it and going for the 7970M is a great idea. You shouldn't regret that decision, plus, once official drivers get released, you will really see the potential of this card.

The only thing I could see is budgetary problems and doing an mxm upgrade in the future. If you want a 660M the Asus G55VW seems like a fantastic option with stellar cooling and noise levels.

I wouldn't consider an Alienware with a 660m. You could save money buying a cheaper laptop with that card.

The only reason Alienware's are worth the premium is for the high end graphics card which are very hard to find in other laptops.

Sounds like your lesson was learned and if you can return it then that is probably the best option. If you want to play games like skyrim on ultra you need the better cards , and while the 660m is not a terrible card it just is not on the same level as the 7970m. If you want to play games at ultra now and in the future a return would probably be your best bet but if you can live with it and maybe lower the settings then a 660m might be fine. To me it sounds like you are not happy with the performance and a return would be your best option though.
