I'm having issues as of last week. I got my m17x R3 in August, did a fresh install as soon I got it (thanks for the great guide BatBoy!) and haven't had any problems till now.

Last week while raiding in WoW, I started to hit low fps... 25-35 and normally I'm pulling 60. Not anymore, in mount hyjal at the quest hub and ares surrounding, just running around I start to hit low 30s and 40s... Even while sitting in SW during the busy evenings I was hitting 17. Now we all know WoW isn't graphically intensive... So I'm thinking what the heck is going on. I did notice some lagging while in WoW as well but that was with quite a few flame mobs being burned down at the same time.

I go into Rift, everything in ultra. I was hitting 19 - low 30s. This wasn't happening before, I was normally in the 60s both in WoW and Rift. (and that may even be low)

I'm running on maximum performance, had all drivers updated even up to the new AMD release (and surprisingly I had no problems installing the 11 driver). These fps issues started before the 11 update and unfortunately continued after. I've had my temps going since I got my R3... And I believe the highest I've got to is 79 F... And that was playing on Rift for hours on end.

I was running on my LAN, plugged in not running off of the battery...
I ran the auslogucs benchmark and I was in the 1230 range. 0.o

Any ideas? I'm doing a reformat and fresh install of windows right now. I had to restart over the first time. I had gotten up to installing the video driver like in BatBoys guide (just the 6990 dell driver) ....after a restart of course I tried to install the 11 driver... Had a BSOD. Well after a reboot windows wouldn't load... so this time after another fresh start (I wasn't that far in anyway) I'm up to the windows update.

I'm wondering if I should even bother updating to the new ATI drivers, as they seem to have trouble getting installed. What I'm really trying to do is get my system back up and mostly updated so I can run benchmarks / FPS tests.

Just a tip, try putting in your signature your major system specs, so people can point out known issues or possible problems with your system.

Preferably kind of like mine, minus the exact ghz and mhz frequencies.

I copied / pasted the reciept from Dell when it was ordered. I can't actually find a signature option in profile settings or otherwise in the control panel.

    M17x R3 Nebula Red // i7 2720QM / Radeon 6990M / 750GB 7200RPM HDD /8GB 1333MHz RAM/ 1920x1080 60Hz WLED / Blu-Ray

It's all stock with drivers from the dell site.

Okay Win Updates are done, checked to make sure everything is on max performance and that it's running on the 6990, ran the auslogucs benchmark... It's still at 1277 which is right about where it was before windows reinstall.

just go to user CP on the top left right above the advertisement square and below where it says Laptop Forums and Notebook Discussion. Should be on "Edit Signature."

Has anyone had similar issues with their 6990s? Oh the phone with dell..... They are running some benchmark test right now and this is pretty sad lol. Trying to keep some humor going as this is getting pretty frustrating.

Try installing in this order then.

    Stock Dell Driver
    Don't uninstall or remove
    Install http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/11-9_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe over it.
    Don't remove it either.
    Install http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/11-10_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe over it.

And if you have trixx or anything overclocking your gpu, try just playing the games(Rift/WoW) on stock settings, might help. I kept trying out crysis 2 w/ the latest patch + dx11 + other stuff with slight overclock and always crash. Same for wow.

O and disable "Supersampling" in Rift. it's a useless setting.

I had BSODs with the drivers before but I may give them a whirl again to see if it helps. I did have the 11 driver installed and it didn't improve anything unfortunately. I don't have any overclocking done. :)

Thanks for the tip in rift!

Just got off the phone with dell and waiting for a callback. On one of the benchmarks I was getting an average of 30 FPS and of course I'm being told this is normal. 0.o

    Thanks zoolian!

Anyone out there with a similar system, the auslogics benchmark / wow / rift that I can rate my scores and FPS with?
