Anyone using a certain program for facial recognition on there m17x?? I know the one from Alienware doesnt exist anymore. Just trying to find a good one.

KeyLemon looks to be pretty good but not sure.

Any other security features out there that could be used for the m17x???

After paying $3500 I want it to be like a vault trying to access it.

All I use now is the basic windows password login.

The original Alienware one that used to come with the system was the same as FastAccess facial recognition software, they just sell it separately as that now for $20-25 I believe. I just received it for free today actually, my webcam was not working after an lcd panel change so they sent me Dell Webcam central 2.0 and FastAccess for free. You can do a free 30day trial of FastAccess on their web site I believe, I tried it and it was pretty cool.

Exactly right, though the price range is actually between $15 and $35 depending on the version that you want. The company (which I work for) is called Sensible Vision...to help in finding the website. There is a free trial available.

Hi svrep, has anyone reported slow startup of your FastAccess software?
I don't get that snappy feel like the one I had in my M17x-R2 AlienSense.

I'm gonna try the 30 day trial and see if I like it, but from the website, it seems simple and easy with alot of great features.

Anyone else have input on this program??......good or bad...

Well the trial said 30 days but when I installed it it says I only have 3 days.

Not sure how I'm liking it. It's nice to not have to type a password in and it just looks at my face and opens a website or starts windows.

My wife put her face up to it and then it asked for a password. Didnt even say unauthorized user or anything.
When I didnt have the password enabled she could just click on my icon when windows stated and get in???
Everytime she put her face up to it, it kept saying "learning" and would keep scanning the face and then said choose profile. She clicked on mine and it let her in.

No particular reports along those lines. After a reboot there are several components that need to load (camera, video display drivers and FastAccess itself) and the order that those steps happen in is up to Windows so it could have a different feel than AlienSense, I suppose, but in general it should be fairly quick.

Yes, this is correct. The trial is 3 days. I'm not sure where the 30 came from.

This is exactly correct and expected. The software can't possibly know that she didn't have her own account to log into or that it wasn't actually you with different glasses that it didn't recognize yet (it will learn, by the way). Entering a password for access is always possible (note that this is true with ANY biometric).
How does the learning algorithm work?

There is a photo audit log in the "Advanced" section that you can refer to later for additional security.

This is also correct. You need a good password. If your account is not password protected then you have no security - with or without FastAccess. This is also true of all biometrics.
Do I REALLY need to password protect my Windows account?

See above. You absolutely 100% need a password. Once you've added one you'll now also need to clear your biometric database (see the help file for details).

If you have any additional concerns I'm happy to help with them here or you can contact us directly through any of the public email addresses on the Sensible Vision website.

svrep.....let me know if I get this right, on the Windows Startup, someone other than me can get in using a password if it doesnt recognize their face correct? But will take their pic so you can see who tried to access it.

Now to require a password, do I click when it sasy "Require Windows Password" so that if it doesnt recognize me or someone else then you type in a password?

That's right (except that I'd substitute the word "tried" to access it with "did" access it). Good password security is still very important. FastAccess adds additional security by giving you the convenience to use a stronger password, by adding real-time security and convenience to website logins as well, and by optionally locking the desktop when you step away. It also adds convenience and fun in many other ways.

Not quite (if I understand your question which I might not). All accounts may always login in with a password under all circumstances. You password protect an account through the standard Windows account management control panel.

The "Require Windows Password" option within FastAccess - when checked - means that only accounts that are password protected may use FastAccess features. It does NOT mean that typing the password is required in order to gain access (if your face is recognized you can be logged in automatically even with this option on). It also does not mean that non-password protected accounts can't login...it just means that those accounts won't be able to use FastAccess features.

Ok so if it diesnt recognize your face at windows log in, then you have to put in your Windows password? I know when it see my face it logs in which is great. Just wondering what happens when someone else trys to unlock my computer.

Yes, if you're not recognized then you log in with your password. That's not only how you get into Windows but also how FastAccess learns more about your face. If someone else has your password then they can enter your account - with or without FastAccess. Here are some relevant FAQs:

How does the learning algorithm work?
Do I REALLY need to password protect my Windows account?
Too many people know my password. Can I fix this with FastAccess?

OK I got it now. Cool thing I like is it will take pics of people who try to access it. No one except my wife knows password so I'm not worried. Thanks for the input. I'm gonna buy it soon.

Very good. Glad that it sounds like it will be helpful. If your wife knows your password then you might also want to look at this one.
Can multiple people share one Windows account?

I should also be clear that the photo audit log will not capture people who try to access your account...it will capture people who do access your account. Perhaps a small distinction, but I wanted to make sure that you knew what to expect. ;-)

Oh, I thought it took pics of people who try too. Still deciding then haha. Its not expensive so I like that.

Is there a way to remove that fast access icon on the start up screen? I just want my icon up there.

Very true - we do try to keep it affordable for as many people as possible. From a security audit perspective it's really the successful attempts that you'd want to log and track down anyway. Otherwise your security just worked. More than that would almost be video surveillance as opposed to biometric authentication control. ;-)

No. This is a Windows programming requirement. Fortunately it really doesn't affect how anything behaves.

ok. I think I'm still gonna go with it. It is a good thing to see who accessed the computer.

Windows password, FastAccess Software, Vipre antivirus and a Kensington Notebook lock should keep this beast pretty protected.

Just have to encrypt my hard drive with the bitlocker that comes with windows ultimate and im good.

Any other sercurity features out there?

No one is taking or getting into my $3500 Alienware!!
