Well, I don't know wheter this is common or not. Thought to share it here.
Just found that whenver my system powers up there's a slight and very fine faint click type noise and again when on the login screen (Don't know whether this was before, I don't think I've heard that before )

To be more specific, the click comes just in time while the alienfx powers up, tried reaseating/reinstalling the HDD (thought this might be the cause due to the Interface CRC count : attention status in HDTune ).

There is no performance degrdadation or instability though, just my brain thinking over this :p .

Any views can be expressed, thanks !

My system did the same before it got stolen. I thought it came from the DVD drive kicking in and I didn't worry about it. It actually became something I waited for to check if everything was ok whenever I powered it up :p

It is not uncommon for one to hear the HDD working while turning on the system. In other words, it's normal.

If you get rid of the HDD altogether, the "ticking/clicking" noises will go away.

I also thought the same about HDD as you J.Dre, I even removed the HDD and booted it up but the same & the DVD drive on 17 i'ts just annoying and it's far louder than this...

EDIT : I think this started after updating AWCC from 3.5 to 3.6, maybe the Alien FX firmware

I think I should call up dell now to have a look into this, But I know how stupid these guys are here they are highly unskilled here after watching them service my M15x ....

EDIT : Adding to this, I've noticed this AlienFx not working properly sometmes when I turn on and off some parts of keyboard are still lit...
I will never upgrade the AWCC from now on, damn !

Its just the DVD drive initiating. Its checking for a disk in the drive, nothing to worry about. There are only two options that it could be and that would be hardware with moving parts, HDD or DVD ROM.

The DVD drive sound is more louder and easily noticable but this one seems different....It's very faint and after all this mess I've stopped bothering about it..meh
Will try reseating the GPU & some parts when I get my TIM Gelid Extreme and iFixit toolkit :hi2:
