I recommend everyone that like open world / shooters to get this game.
The moment you launch the game you're in for some epicness!

Here are the settings I use + OC on my 7970M (950/1450), average FPS is 38 ish when looking at the terrain and 49 when looking at the sky.
Mouse acceleration off and mouse sensitivity I got to the lowest possible, the game is very playable on ultra settings (to my surprise).
My copy came in earlier so I've been toying around with the settings to see what's best (shadows and post fx seem to take toll on FPS the most).

Have purchased it this morning and will be getting into it tonight.

Thanks for putting up your settings as I was wondering how my 7970m would cope with this game as I've heard it can be quite taxing. Can't wait to get home.

Don't forget to update the GPU drivers to Catalyst 12.11 BETA 8, it improved the FPS a bit (over 40+ fps constantly now on ultra).
And the GPU temperature went down as well it seems from 74-75 (Beta 6) to 68 +- (Beta 8).
I'm quite happy, great game and the 7970M is a kick GPU as well as the R4.

Try changing shadows and post fx to medium as I wrote in my first post those 2 take the highest toll on performance.
And I'm using a 7970M vs your 6970M so there are some differences there performance wise.

the main prolem is that i can only run the game normally for 1 min, then the fps drop to 12,and never change back wherever you go,jungle, village, room,or look at the sky or the ground.unless i quit to windown and start the game again, and can play normally at 45fps for 1 min.....

Right-click on the desktop --> screen resolution ---> advanced settings (under adapter type it should say 6970M)
If not press Fn+F7 key, reboot when it asks and run the game again to see if that changes anything.
Also make sure PowerPlay is set to High Performance in Catalyst Control Center.

somehow,i dont know why,but i justfix the prolem after i open my lap and clean it up,now i can play the game with high setting with steady fps range 36_47 for about 10 mins so far, still testing.but im not certain the dust is the cause of sudden fps drop...

One looks like it's probably DX11.

Can anyone tell me if this game requires a full time internet connection or can the campaign be played offline?

Bit late to this thread but I was going to say your problem sounds like it is overheating. If it was full of dust-bunnies then that was it :) . The card will 'step-down' if it gets hot. You can use msiafterburner to monitor your temps in-game if it happens again to see if this is it.

That is annoying when it just fixes and you don't know why. You just end up waiting for it to happen again :( .

    O/T.

I'd be inclined to monitor the temps anyway. If they are high then it might need some more serious (repasting) work and you can fix that. Compare your in-game temps and ask the question in a new thread.

Anyone getting fps dips and spikes?? I was playing fine w/ ultra settings, stock clocks, 2aa, and Ssao at 43fps average and then I go to different parts of the island and the frame rate drops to 10-15 then spikes up again and then I'll move into another area and my fps goes back to normal. Anyone have a clus with that?

    Btw I'm running on amd driver 12.11 beta 11 w/ cap 2.
