Now, I am looking to ramp up the performance of this beast by buying an ssd, HyperX ram, you know , basically all the bells and whistles.

Here's what all I was thinking of:

    1. Intel 510 250gb (or Crucial m4 256 gb) Help with this one. I want the drive to last atleast 4-5years as that is how long I will have this laptop before buying a new one. Can't seem to finalize.:confused2:

    2. 16gb HyperX 1866mhz PnP. (If I have patience then will wait for 2133mhz)

    3. Logitech g700 wireless mouse (true wireless mouse. Mamba and RAT 9 need receivers which kinda defeats the purpose)

    4. Repaste with IC Diamond 24.

    5. NZXT CRYO LX cooler

    6. Alienware m18x bagpack (for the AW head :D , and so that I can fit both lappy and cooler easily)

    7. Remote control (can anyone provide a link to a remote they are currently using? This way I will know for sure it works)

    8. WD Scorpio Black 750 gb and the 750gb hdd that came with system goes into an usb 3.0 enclosure.

So fire away and let me know your opinions, ideas and suggestions.. :) :chatterbox:

Oh right. Sorry I misunderstood. You got a nice system there. Make sure you also apply the 580m throttling fix. With the A08 bios, the system throttles the GPU when it hits a power limit (not a thermal one). With A04, it removes this but 3D is gone. If you follow the instructions here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ttling-m17x-r3-580m-without-120hz-screen.html
you can have the best of both, 3D without any throttling. I performed this with mine. All works very well now. Overvolted vbios, overclocked to 560 Ti clocks vantage score of over 17k.

No the 580m is connected directly to the screen and not passed through the IGP which means no optimus.

I loved the look of the mamba for sure. It's just, you know, beautiful. Breathtaking. But that receiver is aargh, just inconvenient. Suppose I am gaming on my bed. Where the hell do I keep the receiver!!??

And thanks for reminding me about a headset. Gotta pick up one of those too.

Googled it.. too pricey for me.

Anyone got suggestions for a $100 headset??

Why would you game in bed? Where are you going to put the laptop? You will be blocking the vents which will cause terrible overheating and break it...

I got a G700, used it for a week and now it's gathering dust! It feels so flimsy, application-detection was a bit slow (so for the first second or two it would still use the button config from the previous application), battery life is poor and I missed the scroll-wheel of my MX Revolution (easily the best mouse I've ever used).
My solution was to get one of these, which you may also be interested in, so the USB receiver sits flush along the side of the laptop:

It's just a little L-shaped USB connector. So instead of having your USB device sticking out perpendicular to the side of the laptop, it will run flush alongside it.

And all the reviews I read were positive as well, that's why I bought it! Who knows, maybe it' perfect for you and you'll love it; but to me it felt like such a step down from the MX Revolution I have been using for the last couple years...

    Very nice setup OP...

I game in bed all the time. Laptop sits on the cheapo cooler which sits right on my lap. Never had a thermal throttle that way yet. (I'm running the A06 bios if that matters)

I took a photo to give you a better idea. The adapter allows the USB receiver to run parallel with the side of my laptop, as opposed to the receiver at the bottom which sticks out a mile!

Wow, i thought the nano receiver would be a lot smaller, so much so that it wouldn't be noticeable once put..
If it is that big then the mamba doesn't sound so bad..

No that's the MX Revolution receiver! Sorry if I didn't make it clear, that was the whole point of getting the USB adapter. Ignore the one at the bottom, that's just to show how how protrusive it *would* be without the USB adapter.
The G700 has the nano unifying receiver, which is tiny (nano, in fact ;) ), and was the main reason why I bought it. I didn't like the G700 though, so this work-around is to allow me to have the mouse I like (MX Revoluton) without having a 5cm receiver sticking out the side of my laptop.

First of all, welcome to NBR and the AW section. Everyone here is very nice, so feel free to ask any questions. Secondly, you didn't have to post that you got a 240W adapter lolz.

Anywhoo, with regard to your accessories:
1)Get a SSD as many have suggested. The Crucial that was on sale is a good one, many say.

2)4gb ram is enough for gaming.

3)Logitech M305 wireless mouse $12 is perfect for gaming :)

4)Don't need to repaste unless you think you're having temperature problems, or if you live in a very hot, unventilated area.

5)See notebook cooler in my signature.

6)My Orion 17" can fit my R3 and my PS3 at the same time, so you don't have to get a 18" version. Optionally, get the Brenthaven Prostyle BP-XF if all you need to carry is your lappy and textbooks.

    7)Dunno about remotes.

8)Good idea on the external enclosure.

Have fun and let us know when it arrives!

Orochi is such a flimsy mouse for something $50+. My Logitech M305 ($12) is soo much more durable. Razer needs to step up their game in terms of build quality/materials.

it can be wired and you'll get the 4000DPI and 1ms response! if you don't like to stay in one place this would work!

durable? yes but not quick! roughly less than 1000DPI!

Nifty little USB device man. I broke many receivers in the past years due to them sticking out the USB port. Never knew this existed. I loved my MX revolution mouse when I bought it almost 5 years ago. Best mouse I ever owned. I only with they would update it with a nano usb receiver. I now use the m705 which is very close to the MX Revolution if not better, with 3 year battery life which I got on Amazon for $25 and use it 24/7 for gaming. After 3 months continuous I still have about 901 days left. I love it. Thanks for the pic tho. Very nifty.

I went with the orochi to pair with my m11x r1. I love the style, the feel (for a smaller, quite portable mouse) and the versatility of Bluetooth connection or more precise wired connection (with a nice quality connection cord, btw). Never noticed any issue with Bluetooth dropouts. It was a little on the expensive side, but I've really had no complaints. Now I'm just trying to figure out if I need another one dedicated to my m17x r3.

Also went with the crucial m4 256gb. It's my first SSD and love it so far. As I said in another thread, I strictly chose it over the Intel 510 based on price.

Everyone is in support of the m4.
Not a single vote for intel 510. Intel really needs to revise its pricing. And from the leaked specs of the upcoming intel ssds (520 series was it? ), not much fireworks expected from them either.
The reason I wanted to go with Intel was that well it was 'Intel'. The most trustworthy brand. But after all the votes of confidence for the m4, I guess m4 it is for me too.

Oh and a fun fact, I checked the prices for the g700 in my country online on ebay. Prices vary between Rs 7700 ( $124 ) to Rs 25000 ( $500!!!! ) .

So anyone wanna pay me $500 for a mouse?? Free shipping!!!
    That is crazy.

I went with the Logitech Performance MX mouse. Best mouse I have owned.

I also went with intel drives due to thier reliability. Killed my Intel X25-V 40GB SSD once. RMAed it no problem. It's my dedicated benchmarking drive so it gets abused with BSOD and restarts :p It has nothing but a bare Win 7 installation and benchmarking utilities and programs.

G700 /thread. The Orochi while an okay mouse has a lower DPI while in wireless mode, to take full advantage of it you need to tether it to the computer which imo defeats the purpose of a gaming grade mouse. I have a g700, bought it cause my son chewed through my Diamondback limited edition cable. That G700 price is redonkulous.

As far as the SSD goes I personally am reluctant cause it's a new technology and from doing a bit of homework has a finite number of reads/writes and it's not all that high in the grand scheme of things. My guess is there will be fairly few SSD's that last beyond say 10 years. I have an 80 gig Seagate IDE drive that was new when 700 Mhz was fast and it's still going strong, it's seen more service years than most people's computers do and zero signs of stopping. Also value per gb is poor by comparison. However for raw speed you can't lose although anything you want to run that fast has to be on that drive. So if you did a 256 for your OS you'd also have to have all your games on there too. I made a similar decision with a 300 gig Velociraptor for my desktop. It worked great but anything I wanted fast had to be on it.

please note that the G700 is NOT the direct competitive to the orochi! orochi is a mobile gaming mouse while the G700 is full size gaming mouse and logitech's answer to the razer mamba! just make sure what suits you the best!

No love for the Roccat? The Kova [+] has the same textural feel as the M17x R3 and is a great performing gaming mouse anyways. Also being wired means that it is relatively cheap :)

Looked up Orochi. Not enough buttons for macros and no side scrolling. So no orochi for me.

I read about too many problems with the RAT 9, so that is out too.

G700 still going strong although few people aren't pleased with it. However, the overall review of the g700 is quite good on both newegg and amazon.

And the performance mx name keeps popping up again and again. Gonna read some reviews about it now.

My Logi M305 has side scrolling (where you can go left and right with the scroll wheel, right?). $12, bro.

have you ever tried a gaming mouse? not that I'm trying to offend but I also have the higher-end logitech v470 BT for my mac mini! very slow and response time is not acceptable for gaming! remember he didn't ordered M17x for nothing! :)

Get the G700. I have used the orochi, and the deathadder. G700 is definitely the best gaming mouse I have ever used.
