b.............. but after reading the forums it seems like everyone has a ton of problems with them, some almost immediatly after opening them from the box. IF i do absolutley no mods to it to reduce heat, am i sure to have problems? should i expect to have it replaced sometime during the life of the warranty?

No problems hear. Most ppl go on the forums to see if something on there laptop is wrong so they want to compare it to others. A person with a laptop in great condition really has nothing to talk about.

My laptop is perfect no defects at all. There is also a poll on here that show ppl are very happy with the R3.

I will say that if you overclock it and/or due upgrades and you don't know what you are doing then yeah it will need to be replaced. If you leave it stock then there is a better chance it will last longer but then you won't be using it up to its full potential.

I found this site by googling "upgrade RAM in Alienware R17". Unless you just so happen to know about this site, you will most likely only bump into it if you are aquiring information, or have a problem. I am glad I found it, and will be hanging out. There are a bunch of brilliant owners here glad to share information. I am grateful for finding this site!!!!

Same here, just doing research into what upgrades I should go for and graphics comparisons led me to this site, it's a great place, looking forward to spending lots of time here once I get my m17x.

At first I was worried about this to, but most of the problems have been quite fixable, nothing that was overwhelmingly vital (except the nvidia driver issues and BSODS, which seemed to be fixed I think?). Plus, most of the problems on here are like 2-3 people affected per problem(Some affect slightly more people, media bar hinge raised issue, etc), but that's about it. Small things. Shouldn't stress too much over it.

My computer is due to arrive tomorrow. I too had concerns about ordering it. At first I considered an ASUS but there seemed to be problem threads about that computer too.

My last computer was a Toshiba Sli and it had to be trashed by the repair center. I finally concluded that Alienware was a good choice for me. I would definitely go for a solid warranty on any computer.

I just ordered My R3 today and here is a tip for when it comes to the warranty. The rep will bring up the idea of the 3 year advanced warranty. Act like you are on the fence about getting it and say that adding it is really pushing your budget for the computer. I got $100 off right away.
