    Flashing a Dell GTX580M vbios with Clevo vbios

    Guys,

    Was wondering if some of you had tried to flash their Dell GTX580M vbios in the M17xR3/M18x with Clevo vbios in order to sort out their throttling issues (>77°C) ?

    I remember james_2k had tried (not 100% sure) but nothing changed with the throttles so I am thinking it is related to the M17xR3 MOBO but bar-code tried his Dell580M in another laptop (MS16F2) and same throttling happened (around 80°C)... so not really sure what is it now..

    So perhaps flashing the Dell 580M would solve the issue IN a different laptop than the M17x...

    I don't think it works. I heard someone on the Clevo forum tried that and it bricked his Dell card. The PCB and design used by both Clevo and Dell are not identical enough for the VBIOS to be interchangeable I think.

    I know you can with the 6990M as they seem compatible from Dell to Clevo either way... :(

    No.... Clevo 6990M will not work with a Dell vbios... Tried myself :/

    Not gonna happen different cards plus the throttling is in the system bios.

    Thanks for your inputs. I thougt it is related to the system bios of the M17 as M18 users doesn't have the thermal throttles issues anymore but in the msi gt683 bar code reported the same issues at about 80degrees C which really baffles me...will have to try myself I suppose..
