If you have the 6970M or the 6870M you have CCC, and in there you can make a few adjustments to make your display look great.

First, go into desktop colour, and set the gamma to 1.15.
Change brightness to 4, and leave contrast at 100.

Then, go into display colour, and change the Hue to -3, the saturation to ~150.
Second, turn the brightness to ~ -72, while putting up the contrast to ~137.
    Change the temperature to 6700K.

Finally, I'd recommend going into Video Settings, and putting the brightness to 25, the contrast to 87, and saturation to 82.
Put the colour vibrance to 9 and flesh tone correction to 20.
    Video gamma 1.1
    Brighter Whites checked
    Dynamic range checked (0-255)

Use automatic deinterlacing and pulldown detection checked

In Advanced Quality (the 4 categories) have all of them set to 0, and enable dynamic contrast.

After that, nothing else should be checked.

    For the INTEL GPU:

Turn brightness all the way down.
    Contrast at 53
    Gamma 1.1
    Hue at 0
    And saturation at 12.

Let me know what you guys think of this change and if it works well for you :) Would love a lot of feedback.

Have you tried leaving everything at normal values except changing the saturation to 135-155? If not can you try that and compare it with the changes you made? That's all I have done and I think the screen looks great!

I saw that before, but now I feel my blacks are deeper and my whites are brighter, so the contrast looks better along with the fact that the colours are so deep. Try what I wrote and let me know your opinion.

It is personal opinion... I personally don't care for the "HD" looks, like bloom and over saturation. Some people like it, some don't.

Oh I agree, but most people have been complaining that it's not as good as the RGB for those reasons, so I did my best to augment those aspects.

    ^^The man's correct. Also, welcome!

Personally, I only increased the temperature from stock to 6700k to make the whites look "whiter". Remember how I said my replacement unit was yellowish? I turned it up on that one and it was still yellow, so glad to have sent it back. Will have to try the other settings Dave suggested though :)

EDIT: Just tried your suggestions, and it hurts my eyes. NBR on firefox looked kinda egg-shell white, which kinda hurt my eyes. Just rolled back to default with the 6700K. Thx though for the knowledge :)

good to know. i've been gettin that feeling that the blacks looked a bit "greyed" out. fine with the whites, as i'm used to being in low light levels, and pretty much 70-80% of the time im in that situation so it works out good, but the blacks are what were kinda throwing me off.

the screen itself is better than what i'm coming from though, a HP G71-340US. which was the first screen that i actually accepted as decent. so i'm not used to all this RGB LED stuff that some of these people are.

i love when people try to make due with what they have. sure its great to get top of the line, but sometimes, what you have is what you have and you just have to make the best of it, and for this, i thank you! :D i have yet to try it out yet, but i will as soon as i can. going through a system restore (again bleh) at the moment. i'll let you know how it goes!

    holy crap the blacks look...black!

i previously just messed only with the saturation and tried to adjust everything else but ended up just over saturating everything even though it looked better than default it was still lack the OMG factor.

im using the bf3 wallpaper as my desktop picture and there is a huge difference and coolers look more vibrant, blacks look nice and colours are rich they don't feel oversaturated and blury, i tested video i felt the sharpness was reduced but the colours did look natural.

anyway nice find man! +rep if u can still find any better calibration do let us know :D

yea man, i feel the same way. i DO have a desktop, but there are 2 factors that got me to buy a laptop. 1 is that i am in the military, and my job keeps me away from home probably 200 to 250 days out of a 365 day year... (alot of trips). the 2nd, is my wife. she's always complaining "you need to come downstairs and hang out with me" so... now i can get the best of both worlds. i can sit there on the couch and act like i'm typin up some or surfing the forums or what not (and playing games :D) and hang out with her.

just "upgraded" my desktop, so i havent been able to really compare it (did play about a week worth of portal 2 on it tho) but on that i'm running an AMD X6 1090T (not overclocked... yet :D) 8gb Crucial ram, 2x 500gb Raid 0 (might have failed, they were old drives), 1Tb WD 7200, Nvidia 560 Ti. all packed into a crappy NZXT case (looking for a HAF eventually, or i might hardcore mod the NZXT).

i just set up the colors, and i could tell right away while setting them up that its a much better improvement. the only "complaint", is that since its got more black, in a low-light environment, with my nice bright green lit up effects, the green reflects off the shiny screen lol.

i could also tell that there's probably a bit of improvement based on ones own eyes, situation, and preference. i'm glad you pointed this out, as now when i'm bored and feeling a bit on the creative side i might play with the settings to get a feel of them, and see if i can create my own custom color setup.

who needs RGB LED :D lol.

Yeah, that was one of the things I'm working on. The flesh tone correctness isn't working the best with 720p videos. I've made videos sharper though, so almost there.

Hey Dave I played with your settings as well and found it to be too dark to my liking.
Under Display color: I put Saturation at 140 and Brightness at -12, Contrast at 120.

Your Video settings are not good by the way.

I was watching a Blu Ray with your settings and it looked washed out. Especially the black format bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
Try Brightness 0, Contrast 100, Saturation 104, tint 0.00, and everything else was changed to what you had put down.

This will give you better blacks and overall better picture quality for video playback.

Now it looks alot like the picture quality on my $2500 Samsung 7000 Series 55'' 3D HDTV, which I had professionally calibrated.

I think it's difference of opinion to be honest, because the way you have it the video is way too high contrast for realistic picture. I don't like the colour of skin this way, seems too unnatural.

each screen will look slightly different, both setting for me still have an orangy effect, i had to bring the color temp to 75k for my personally liking. but prolly still have to do some more adjust before i find the perfect combo.

Yeah yeah, of course. That's why I made the numbers ~ 130 for example, when I had 132 or something (in the beginning, I got lazy afterwards lol). I know every screen is different, and everyone's eyes/preferences are different, so I hardly expect anyone to follow them to a T. I just thought I'd share since I a lot of people were complaining about the displays quality compared to the RGB's, so I did my best to try to come close to that.

In fairness, the screen settings and video settings are different, so it's possible he likes the colours in applications, while disliking them for video watching. While I like my screen for programs and games vibrant and high contrast, I prefer my movies and videos a little dull so that they're more lifelike.

He's right! I wasn't trying to be mean, but honest. I do like the screen settings now thanks to him for all my applications and web browsing. I modify them alittle but I just thought the video settings were off. I could tell a big difference because his settings had the black format bars above and beneath the movie all washed out which the movie quality was as well, but thats because he likes his brighter and contrast higher. I wanted the blacks to be as dark as possible so i modified it to a better setting, in my opinion so that it true and accurate to what it should be.

The blacker the blacks and the whiter the whites then everything in between will be better, like contrast, saturation, color accuracy, detail. I could answer in question you have on picture quailty and differences in LED-LCD/LCD/Plasma/OLED, ect. I did 2 months of research before buying my Samsung 3D HDTV. I know that HDTV's and computers screens/monitors arent the same but "generally" they are.

So guyz, is there a easy way to just make the blacks more "black" ? That's the only thing I'd like to change, cuz everything else is either too bright or makes my eyes hurt.

I have but its not exactly the same. Looks a little bit paler but it's good. I don't really care too much because I like my colours amazing for gaming mostly. Movies and other stuff I'm fine with "good enough" I'm not on IGP now, but I'll post them when I am.

Hey guys I found this thread yesterday. I am familiar w/ calibrating plasma displays as I own a Panny ST5530. However w/ plasmas there is a 100hr burn in period where you run slides (Evangelos) for 100hrs prior to calibration. My question is should I do something similar w/ this display? I applied all settings last night & videos where perfect. However pics from websites seem to be pushing to much red & blue?? I left all video settings as they were but applied factory defaults back to display. Thanks to all of you for all the great knowledge.
