This might make me sound like a nitpicker but I find this to be very frustrating. I got this laptop for couple of months now. I bought it brand new from alienware site, it's a m17x r3. first couple of weeks later I notice there are a light white horizontal line near the top edge of lcd, pic is here , http://i55.tinypic.com/2lmuiz5.jpg , http://i51.tinypic.com/2nhhp5c.jpg , http://i53.tinypic.com/14b3qs7.jpg , http://i54.tinypic.com/2ppg46q.jpg , sorry for a low quality pic , it is really hard to see with this , I took this pic with a phone cam but will notice it right away in person.

I called Dell to fix this problem and they sent a tech to fix it and which he did. A couple of weeks pass by. I notices this same line appear on the lcd (keep notes you will not see it once you close the lid and let it sleep but it will appear again in couple of mins later once its turn on ). most of the time it's hard to notices it especially browsing the web. but what irritated me the most and you will notice it right away when I watch HD videos in full screen or playing any games in full screen or while I'm in desktop looking at some wallpapers. It's a distraction, took away the full experience and doesn't feel right for the price of this laptop.

Does anyone have this kind of issue with their M17x R3? I don't know what to do really. Am I asking to much to have a laptop without issue and enjoying it what I paid for. This is not a first gaming laptop that I bought, I had some including ASUS and Gateway. ASUS is perfect and its nowhere near the price of alienware. The Gateway I had have some issue but exchange it right away and the price is nowhere near alienware either.

    I kind of see it.

The only thing to do is to take a better pic and show it to tech support.

I have uploaded another pic, I think this one is a little better http://i51.tinypic.com/2ew030m.jpg . the last tech replaced the lcd with new one but I don't understand why it's still happening after couple of weeks later.

Could be a few things, including the cable and video card. Make sure tech support knows about this and orders the LCD, cable and maybe video card as well.

Do you see this in safe mode or even in the BIOS?

The tech that came in my home only replaced the old lcd with new one because we rooted out any problem except the lcd. I use dell diagnostic tool at boot up screen and founded no issue. I even tried to connect the laptop to HDTV display and its perfectly fine but not on laptop lcd. I don't see the white light line in BIOS because the deep color hides it but I do see it in diagnostic tool on pre boot and SAFE MODE. the thing about this issue is that it's hard to notice it with some deep color but it is very noticeable when watching HD video in full screen or playing games.

Maybe its the way your holding/using your laptop, a pressure point in that area perhaps? Or maybe something on your mobo went haywire and is causing problems with your lcd?

most of the time my laptop laying on a laptop holder and I would never hold my laptop in a way that causes some kind of pressure on screen and I would never touch lcd screen unless I wipes dust off. It could be my mobo causes the lcd screen to be that way but there is no I can find out.

It's actually strange since you got two screens presenting the exactly the same issue.......maybe you wanna check your keyboard or something that will put pressure on your screen......

I checked and measure the distance of that white light line and find that it is not parallel with a keyboard when I close the lid but it does with a touchpad.
The thing about it is I don't see anything wrong with the touchpad and the white light line stretch way farther compares it to the touchpad distance.
