Dell is running a 25% off All computers promotion on the AAFES website which already has discounted prices. This promo runs through the 14th and is only available to active or retired military through the The Exchange site.
The following configuration is coming out to $1256 shipped, free ship and no tax. You can also get a nice M14x for $550'ish as well. They're already discussing the deal in the m14 forum, but I wanted to make sure everyone who could get this deal sees it.
$1256.75 shipped.

Wow what a system.
-
-
Anyway to cash in the discount if not associated with the military?
-
Pulled the trigger on a M14x R2 for $621.75! Now the wait...
-
I would order the m17x the op listed in a heartbeat, if i could somehow take advantage of this offer!

I looked at the qualifications for ordering from that website, it mentions something about dependents being eligible for the discounts. If my father was a WWII veteran (I'm 24) would I be eligible for this or am I misinterpreting it.

That makes my decent deal feel like a giant ripoff. I'm half tempted to return it given my system is marginally worse (I got the 3610 cpu) for nearly a third more money.
-
Sometimes being in the military has it's payoffs
Man, I have enough in my paypal to order that with all the things I've sold in the past week. I was trying to raise funds for a pair of 7970s. Currently I'm planning to order a pair of 7970's and a large external to hold all my image backups.
This has made me rethink that. How much does that config go for normally? I just configured it on the Dell site and it's about $2,049 before shipping. Now I'm thinking I may have to buy the R3 through AAFES, and then just list it here on NBR. Hmm...
I would still rather have an M17x R2 with 7970 Crossfire.
Hmmm... The same config for me on the Exchange site is coming to $1,455.75 for me. rschauby Where are you getting that? I followed the exchange site link to the Dell store. Are you OCONUS?
Here is what I'm seeing.

-
did you remove the 200 dollar microsoft office?
-
The base config offers 6GB RAM, i7 3610 CPU, 16x9 screen, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, and GTX 660 for $1,086.75.
When configured like the OP stated (3720, 7970M, 1900x1080, 750GB 7200RPM HDD) its $1,455.75, not $1,256.
The M17x isn't offered under "Popular Laptops" and under "Hot Deals" The minimum RAM is the 8GB option. But with everything else as OP configured it, it comes out to $1,842.00. My main question is how did the OP come to $1,256 with the config he stated in the OP.
Doing that (removing Microsoft Ofice) it comes out to $1,211.75 with a 500GB 7200RPM HDD. With a 750GB it comes to $1256.75
I may have to order this, though I'd do so with a 500GB 7200RPM HDDJust to sell it, I don't need another system

It's not like they are ever going to know if you sell it (unless you wanna transfer warranty), plus it would be illegal for them to do so because you can buy it with your intention to keep it but decided to sell it after having it for various reasons which they don't even need to know

wow...what a discount.

My uncle is a veteran! YES! I'm buying mine Sunday. I know the offer is good until the 14th but does that mean I can still use it on the 14th? I don't have access to the AAFES site until then.

-
Call him and ask him to buy it for you, if he's ok with that.

anyone with access to aafes account who want earn some cash please pm me

Why do you think it's ok to abuse the great deals Dell is willing to give military members?
Did you serve? No? Pay the asking price. You can still get a great deal if you wait and find some coupon codes here and there.
I have an issue with you thinking just because this offer is made to people that have made a lot of OTHER sacrifices in their lifestyle you're somehow entitled to it as well.
Bottom line: It's fraud, and will make Dell rethink providing these awesome discounts to servicemembers that I dare say actually do deserve them. -
There is an issue with having someone purchase the system for you.
The person placing the order would have to have the systems shipped to their residence. Then they would have to ship the item to you. Another set back would be if you had any faults with the system, you would have to have the person that purchased the system contact Dell and it could be a hassle trying to troubleshoot the problems when they don't have the system.
I have an AAFES account and am trying to see if I could return my system and reorder a next gen system. I doubt I would be able to, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I'd be willing to help some people out, but I live in the UK now and shipping a laptop to the states wouldn't be worth it in the long run. I agree with alienb, just save yourself the hassle and order it yourself. Call Dell and try to price haggle. I'm sure you can come close to the discount we get. Good luck. -
The EPP program gets deals similar to this as well, and almost everyone can qualify for EPP (through school, work, or your second cousin who attends some school or job) all you really need is an EPP code from someone eligible.
When I ordered my machine I got top-end specs, SSD, 16 gigs of ram, blu-ray, etc all for like $2250 total. The normal retail was over $1000 higher. -
Eligiblity has been posted in Bargains forum since yesterday http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebook-tech-bargains/661620-aafes-dell-aw-sale-may-8-14-a.html#post8505644 -
I've been unable to find any EPPs that give me more than 70 bucks off.

I'm probably going to pull the trigger tonight on an R4. (i7 3720, 500GB, 7970M, DVD, 1080P, 6GB RAM, Intel N 2230, Win 7 HP). Can't pass it up for $1,211 shipped. New toy to play with. Interesting to play with it side by side with my R2.
And since I sold enough old computer stuff this week, the wife doesn't really care. She just rolls her eyes and calls me a dork

Well no deal for me :/ I tried to set up the account for my uncle and it didn't work.
-
Slickdeals.net is full of beggars asking some military (who are not so smart) to "help them buy a laptop". I am willing to bet that pretty soon we will see a spike of new AW laptops on eBay for sale.
-
Getting the deal from AAFES is actually really easy and anyone can get it. Heres how. Just head down to the local recruiters office and sign some papers. Easy as pie
I may have to head to slick deals and do some taunting hahaha

I am in for one. Awesome deal. Quick question. I have never ordered a laptop from the AAFES site. At what point does my order show up in my order status page?
-
Well I just pulled the trigger on the deal for $1,211 (i7 3720, 500GB, 7970M, DVD, 1080P, 6GB RAM). However the site kicked me out because I used an email I prefer to use, rather then what I have in my AAFES profile. It doesn't show up in my order status either, so I'll be calling in the morning and checking in on it. If it's not there I'll put my order in with my profile email address. Going to be nice to have a new toy to play with and see how my R2 stacks up.

Double post.

AAFES website seems to be having problems with orders. I can't see my orders at all. I can still track them on Dell website (In production status), but not on AAFES. Hopefully it'll be fixed by tomorrow.

I wonder if AAFES is still having issues. Can't view my order. Wonder if it even went through since I used a differant email then what was in my AAFES account profile.
-
Same. I got the initial email about my order but nothing since and I cannot view my orders either.
-
I havn't even gotten an initial email
Wonder if it was canceled due to the email address conflict. I'll call AAFES later today to verify. If thats the case I'll update my AAFES email address in my profile. Currently I have the AOL email address I use for all store signups/spam in my AAFES profile. I may put my military email in it though.
-
I doubt email address is the issue. I changed mine when I placed my order and I still got that first email saying, "hey you ordered this".
