So, I thought I was getting an r2 w/ the 740qm, but I guess I got lucky and got a free upgrade to the 2820qm, 8gb ram, and instead of dual 5870's, a single 1.5gb 460gtx nvidia card.

What can and should I do to it?

    2820qm is a lot faster than 740qm,while dual 5870 is a lot faster than a GTX 460.To be exact,GTX 460 performs more like A SINGLE 5850(GDDR5).
So if you like to have more gaming muscle, then this is more like a downgrade than an upgrade.
    Just to let you know...

well its free so take it and well i think the dual 5870s> 1 GTX 460m. but you are no longer getting an r2, since r2's do not have those specs. You have to be getting an r3. for now see if you can upgrade the GPU, either by them(AMD 6970m) or yourself(Nvidia GTX 485m).

The m17xR3 is a much better system then the R2 was. I dont mean specs wise, I mean overall quality. I would be happy :)
I would however ask them about swapping out the video card for one that matches your old ones. (6970). They can easily do this after you get your system.

You had a dual cpu system, ask for dual gpu. You'd probably get an M18x with dual gpu's and Sandybridge. On another note, I think the M17x R2 has better build quality than the R3 just my opinion.

Edit: 4500 posts and one more rep power pt! :p Hahaha

I personally wouldn't think it as upgrade

Ask for dual like others have mentioned.

I am curious, how would I go about asking for more parts? I won the laptop via a contest, and had the top cover replaced with a custom image from the gaming company. So...unless I am either very fortunate, im not sure how I would go around asking for replacements/upgrades.
