I have Adobe CS6. While using Photoshop anytime I try to use a filter effect that takes advantage of the GPU it says "The operation could not be completed." I have found out that if I disable GPU acceleration all features work just fine. I'm convinced this is a driver error as Photoshop does not want to use my 6990M. I'm running the 12.4 drivers installed over the Dell drivers. To install the drivers I uninstalled all video drivers, ran driver sweeper, installed the dell drivers, and then installed 12.4 drivers over the Dell ones. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get my video card to play nice with Photoshop?

Have not tried it yet. I'll pull out my laptop in a bit and check and see if mine is doing that at all but I have a 7970M not a 6990M.

Settings - Performance - Advanced settings - check Graphic Acceleration - Use OpenCL - Anti-alias uncheck 30 Bit display.
    Update your drivers.

j95: I don't have the option to enable OpenCL on my system. Anything in particular that needs to be done? Running 12.8 drivers.

EDIT: It worked fine save for the lack of OpenCL support. It seems our OpenCL drivers are kinda weird for this.

j95: I had Graphic Acceleration with OpenCL and Anti-alias checked and 30 bit unchecked. With those settings Photoshop would not use any effects that took advantage of the video card. It would return the error "The operation could not be preformed". The only way I can get Photoshop to use all the functions is to DISABLE Graphic Acceleration. As for updating my drivers, 12.8 is not compatible with the 6990M as I and several others have confirmed blue screens when attempting to install. I also get a blue screen when attempting to install the 12.6 drivers. 12.4 are the newest drivers I can get to work on my system. My problem remains that Adobe does not want to use my 6990M on the 12.4 drivers. Any more advice?

Ati's 6000 mobile series should be supported, all these features are also driver related so you need updated drivers.

I'm always been on the green side but Nvidia's brilliant move spending a fortune with locked Kepler consumer cards pushing us to spend 3K on a graphic card is making me and others go red, that's all what ATI wasn't expecting such generosity so now we will have to depend on ATI's wonderful driver support!

I installed the unlocked A10 bios, disabled the integrated graphics, and installed the 12.8 Mobility drivers. I still get the error "This operation could not be preformed". I'm using the most up to date ATI drivers and CS6 is fully up to date as well. What am I doing wrong?

You dont have to disable IGP for 12.8 to work, follow j95 post above and you will get latest 12.8 with switchable working as well.

If you're working with the pro apps don't use driver sweeper, in the end it will corrupt codecs players my case AJA KONA Quicktime codec WMP Encoder codecs, Photoshop CS6 uses Gpu Sniffer which runs tests GPU and drivers.

Link Quote : Video Cards for Adobe Photoshop CS6 with the Mercury Graphics Engine, OpenGL and OpenCL

    The GPU Sniffer
Adobe uses a program call the GPU Sniffer (actually the program name is sniffer_gpu.exe), to test the GPU and drivers and Photoshop CS6 uses information to enable or disable the Use Graphics Hardware feature.

If the GPU Sniffer fails the first time it is run, Photoshop will display an error message stating it has detected a problem with the GPU.

After that, the error message will not appear unless you reset the Photoshop CS6 preferences.

If you correct the problem, by either replacing the video card or by updating the video card driver, the next time you launch Photoshop CS6, the GPU sniffer should pass the tests and the Use Graphics Hardware checkbox will be enabled.

1-Uninstall drivers follow this guide : how to properly uninstall ATI/AMD Software Drivers for Graphics Cards. (Beware this may delete ATI's third party software entries)
    2-Install drivers sherrypizza's guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-managed-get-12-8-catalyst-working-6990m.html don't skip anything.

From Edit > Preferences > Performance:
    Graphics Processor Settings
    Detected Graphics Processor:
    ATI Technologies Inc.
    AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series

    BUT

From accessing System Info through Photoshop:

    OpenGL Drawing: Enabled.
    OpenGL Drawing Mode: Advanced
    OpenGL Allow Normal Mode: True.
    OpenGL Allow Advanced Mode: True.
OpenGL Allow Old GPUs: Not Detected.
Video Card: Unknown Video Card Name.
Driver Version: Unknown Video Driver Version.
Video Card Driver: Unknown Video Card Driver.
    Video Mode: Unknown Video Mode.
Video Card Caption: Unknown Video Card.
    Video Card Memory: Unknown. MB

It appears it's not reading the video card correctly. I don't see a point in following sherrypizza's guide as I don't really need the integrated graphics and I installed the 12.8 drivers just fine. I even uninstalled them and reinstalled them and still no luck with this. I searched, but that guide does not tell how to run GPU Sniffer. I also tried to "reset the Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt", but that keyboard shortcut didn't do anything. I've played some games so I know my video card is working just fine even though Adobe hasn't figured that out yet.

    Gpu Sniffer runs with Photshop.
NOTE: Every time you change the GPU preferences when troubleshooting a problem, you MUST re-launch Photoshop CS6 after each change.
    Repeat these steps :
. If that does not work, then Reset the preferences. Launch Photoshop CS6 then:

On a Windows system, you can reset the Photoshop preferences by pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt

Click Yes when asked if you want to delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File. Then try the function again and see if the problem is resolved.

    5. If that does not work, then go back up to the section titled "Setting up the GPU & OpenGL in Photoshop CS6". Follow the instructions to Step 4. Under the Drawing Mode try setting it to Basic and restart Photoshop CS6 and try the function again to see if the problem is resolved.

    6. If that DOES work, then set the Drawing Mode to Normal and see if the problem is resolve. If it is not, then return it to the Basic mode setting.

Pressing and holding Shift+Ctrl+Alt does nothing. Changing the Drawing Mode to Basic does nothing. Still the same error. I have been restarting Photoshop each time I change a setting.

I had an online chat with someone from Adobe. Here is part of the transcript (Names have been removed). Apparently the 6990M is not supported by Adobe.

Adobe Representative: You face this issue only when your video card is not supported .
Adobe Representative: The error operation could not be performed when the card is not supported .
Me: If i turn GPU acceleration off I can perform all functions just fine. I only receive the error when I enable GPU acceleration
Adobe Representative: Yes, as your video card is not supported ,once you enable the card , it is not able to work with the card as it is not supported .
Me: But my card is part of the AMD/ATI Radeon 6000 series, which is listed under supported
Adobe Representative: Yes, but there are many part within the series which is not supported .
Adobe Representative: In this case I suggest that you either continue working on the product by turning off the GPU or you can contact the card manufacturer for the latest updated driver for the product and then try .
Me: I already have the latest updated driver for my product
Me: Can you confirm that my video card is not supported by Adobe? Once again it is a Radeon 6990M
Adobe Representative: Since the product is unable to use the card for the editing then the card is not supported ,to check with that I request you that contact the card manufacturer for the latest updated driver from them itself and then try .
Me: I downloaded the latest driver from the AMD website just 2 days ago. I am 100% positive i'm using the latest driver for my video card.
Me: It is part of the AMD/ATI 6000 series and SHOULD be supported. I am running the latest video drivers available.
Adobe Representative: If your card were supported then , you will not get the error "The operation could not be preformed""unless the driver is installed .
Adobe Representative: So I request you to check with the driver to confirm .
Adobe Representative: And if it is installed then your card is not supported .
Adobe Representative: You can continue using the product by disabling the GPU option .
Me: So the top of the line video card from AMD/ATI released 1 year ago is not supported by Adobe? Okay then

That doesn't make any sense as the the mobile version is the "top of the Line" of the 6000 series, at least one card should be supported ergo 6990M.
Not supported due to error message, anyway sherrypizza has the newest Catalyst driver september 4.
I did reset Photoshop to Defaults so you can copy the settings.
    Restart only when finished.
    Reset settings.
1-Performance -Memory Usage set it to 6144 MB let 2GB for OS.
    2-Performance -Advanced Settings -OpenCL - Anti-alias (Advanced - Normal)
3-3D - Available VRAM set it to 100%.
    4- Restart.

I decided to try my luck on round 2 with Adobe support and I finally got the issue fixed. I'm not sure which process it was, but one of the programs that runs on startup was causing the problem. I went into msconfig and disabled all startup applications and Photoshop is working just fine with GPU acceleration and everything. The first person I talked to obviously didn't know what he was talking about.
