I recently reformatted and reinstalled all drivers. All the software is the same along with the drivers except my nVidia drivers are newer then what I had prior to the reformat.
Prior to the reformat I had no issues with running Dragon Age: Origins in max settings. Now after 20 minutes my M17x will just shut-off.
I have done a few tests and read a few posts. I have checked my CPU temp and my GPU temp. My CPU is fine but my GPU temp is way above the dange zone when I run the game.
I have removed any dust from the fans and am using a cooling pad with 2 fans but still have the same issue.
Another poster informed me to repaste. If I do the question is how do you remove the case? There are no screws on the back side to take the shell off.
Here are my specs for any help. My M17x is about a 1.25 years old and is not an R1 or R2 (that I know of).
CPU: intel Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.80GHz
GPU: Dual nVidia GeForce GTX 260M @ 1024MBs each (SLI enabled)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz
Display: native res 1920 x 1200
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium

My GPU temperatures sit when I am just surfing the internet or doing anything without video requirements between 65 and 80C. Once I start playing a game the temp rises to between 100 to 110C. This is the range for both GPU cores. MY CPU does not go above 75C.

If it worked fine for gaming before, the issue isnt necessarily "gpu paste related" because if your temps were good before, your thermal paste wouldnt have suddenly decided it wasnt going to work if you get my drift?
Have you recently removed the gpu's at all? - maybe that has something to do with your high temps -
I have yet to ever open my case yet. As for the temperatures prior to reformatting I do not know what they were running I didn't keep track of them until after. I can't roll back the drivers due to the reformat and I can't remember what driver version I had installed.
I took a look at the video for teardown what would be repasted if I decided to go that route? It doesn't look like anything on the video cards have a heatsink just the gpu fans underneath it. -

Those temps you have now are way too hot....probably why you keep shutting down....
