For the last few days I have noticed that while I am in a game, that my 6990's fan will always stay at idle speed until the temperature is around 85-87°C! When it gets to this temperature the fan goes to 100% speed for a quick second, then a little slower to cool it down slowly to 79-80°C and then the fan stops and then the temp goes back up and so on.

If you need any more info, just ask.

    Thank you!

You could try using Sapphire Trixx or HWInfo64 for more personal fan control.
Just make sure the version is 4.0.0 for trixx.

Even so his fans are not supposed to work this way and he shouldn't rely on third party softwares for his laptop to work properly.

Hwinfo32 can log your temperatures vs fan speed, i would start from there monitoring to better understanding of the behaviour. Fans should rev-up at different temperature setpoints. On the R2 for example over 55 °C > 2200rpm ; over 65 °C > 3200rpm ; at 80 °C full speed (4000ish)

Hi, unfortunately this is normal for stock m17x R3's. I had the same thing happen to me on my system. I repasted, and used fan control in the HwInfo program (free) to turn the fan on more at lower temps.

I was a bit shocked that Dell engineers obviously consider this to be acceptable on idle. Go figure.

Dell techie people always baffle me. I'm not sure if they're trying to raise the longevity of our systems or burn it to crisp.

    New Bios! - Throttling introduced.
New Fans! - 80C is normal.

I don't post pics very often but...I have to for this one about Dell Engineers.

I do not think that this is normal, before my fan kept the temps under 70-74° whenever I was in game, but the last 5 days it is always on idle speed until it gets to exactly 85-87°

I have attached a log from the HWiNFO32 Sensor Status (I hope this was the right spot to get it from)

This problem is still going on, and I have tried to change the fan speeds by using Trixx and Hwinfo64, but the fan will stay at idle speed until its at 86-87°C

I would request replacement parts. Something's not right.
