My Alienware M17x R3 from 2011 suddently had a split screen tear. I restarted the computer. It was fine. Then after a few minutes I had a split screen tear. The next day everything was fine. But after a day or two, the screen would just go blank.

At one point, I got a notification from Windows that, "Windows recovered from a gpu driver issue". After I restarted the computer. It would just have a blank screen. Nothing shows.

I tried uninstalling the GPU driver. When I do that my computer switches to the integrated-GPU and everything is fine. Until my computer installs a GPU driver, switches to the new drivers from the integrated one, and again everything goes to blank.

Is this a driver issue? Or a hardware issue? Maybe my gpu is dead?

I would guess at the GPU, 580m by any chance?

Sounds like a GPU issue to me as well. If you have ruled out drivers, you could try a fresh Windows install but I don't think that will help you much.
