    Is there any current estimations as to when we think that AW will put a newer Nvidia GPU in the M17x r3?

    Thanks! :)

    Only speculation of the 485 coming. But we aren't holding our breaths.

    Huh... that's interesting. Why do they put the 3GB 555m in the M14x and have a weaker GPU in their bigger model?

    Last I remember I think the 460 is faster than the 555. By how much I don't know. And the number of gigs isn't an accurate representation of speed. Great for marketing.

    #gigs of vram != power

    The 460m kills the 555m, hands down. You would be better suited looking at the prefix, it is the 460m GTX, and 555m GTS

    The 555 uses DDR3 memory anyways, whereas the 460m is DDR5

    The difference between 1.5/3 g 555m is dell sucks extra money out of you.

    Also, the m17x has mxm gpu slot, so it can at least have the ability to upgrade its gpu

    First of all, the 555m is actually a weaker GPU than than the 460m. It may have more memory, but processing power is weaker.

    Secondly, the 460m is not weak. It is still considered a next generation high end video card. Besides, the 460m is still the best value at this point for NVIDIA cards when considering performance/dollar.

    I don't think the 485 will come out for the m17x r3, because they probably want to get rid of the 460's first, main reason the 460 is in the configuration is cause of the 3d, essentially that's the only reason the 460 is there. Most people who want performance (and who don't know how to upgrade to a 485 by themselves) have been getting 6970m (from what i've read here on NBR). If the 485 comes out it'll be both performance and 3D, essentially making the 460 useless and the 6970m an option mainly for the non-3D users.

    Ah, I see. Thank you all for your insight, and I learned something about GPU's today too!
