So after talking with Alienware support my graphics card or my Main board is defective. My computer doesn't show that their is a dedicated graphics card anymore and only recognizes the integrated graphics. I asked if it would be possible to get a replacement laptop considering i have had 2 main board replacements, 2 screen replacements, and 1 HDD replacement. Now with the graphics card being replaced or possibly the main board replaced again does anyone think i would have a chance at getting approved? I have seen people on the forums approved for a lot less in the past!

    Thank You

Not at all surprised your gpu troubles are linked to a GTX 580m. I had three of those die on me last year alone. None where overclocked, and heat was never an issue. If you ask me that particular card is plain undependable.

As for getting a complete replacement, I'd say it's worth a try. I'm sure the above poster's link will prove useful in that regard. Good luck.

Yes I would inquire about a replacement system, given your extensive repair history, you aren't the first with a dead 580M.

Yeah, it does appear to be a very unreliable card.

My first M18x had dual 580m's. Throttled all the time and I sent it back. The R3 had 2 replacement 580m's before something else went wrong and I started to pursue a replacement. This R4 is a dell replacement and was built new.

Even so I've had one 675 crap out on me and that is exactly the same card as the 580m just rebadged :(

All through though it's the dell warranty that lets me keeps trying :D

I have also had the throttling issue but after awhile and using a fix on this forum i got around that. Its to the point where my system is unreliable because it needs to be repaired every other month. I will check out the above link. Thanks everyone

You could ask for further escalation, however we deal with that on a case by case basis. Is a single person handling your case? You could ask that person to escalate it to try to get that.

I was denied a replacement unit, when i asked the person what the reason was he said that's all the information he had and we only had the option of repair and no further escalation. There has been two people dealing with my issue this time but im pretty sure i have had different people for all the other issues.

After being denied a replacement unit, the tech came out today to replace the main board and GTX-580. After he had finished he booted up the computer to a new Mobo code of 7 beeps which i understand is the CPU. After being on the phone with dell again he wanted to send it in to the service center so i once again asked for a replacement. Even Best Buy seems to have better warranty coverage as after 3 hardware failures not caused by user damage would have been replaced by now. The tech that came to work on the computer was extremely nice and knowledgeable so i'm glad to see Alienware has got that going for them.

I called Alienware again to see what the was going on with the exchange i had requested for but apparently the claim was never submitted with the person i talked to last Wednesday. The tech that i had just spoke with told me it was unlikely that my system would be exchanged. Im not sure what else to say considering that it has had 3 motherboard replacements, 2 lcd replacements 1 hard drive replacement, GTX580 replacement, and a Heat sink replacement. It now may have to have another motherboard replacement and CPU replacement when i get denied for exchange according to the tech. None of these claims have been accidental and they have all been MFG defect.

Any tips for what i should do next?
