Hello all,
Long-time lurker and first time poster. Thanks to you guys I got the courage to buy and install a Samsung 830 256 SSD and am loving it. Not the most computer savvy.
I have an Alienware M17xR3 with the Nvidia 580GTX. I am running the latest driver from the dell website but noticed the Nvidia website has a much more modern driver but it looks like optimus is not supported. I am not running the 3D screen. Are you guys using the most recent driver from Nvidia from 5/22/12 or the most recent dell one from 2011? I also did the vbios update just now from the dell website. Thanks in advance!!!

I'm using the latest drivers from nvidia and they work fine. Forget about the dell drivers, they don't update those.
But if you want your HDMI in to work you need to do a quick mod. There is a thread, just search "HDMI in" I guess -
Thanks! I will update to the nvidia one.

You'll get better results with the 296.10 WHQL set from Nvidia. Drivers | GeForce.

I don't really know. I'm running a 580M with the IGP disabled, so Optimus is not in play at the moment. The 300 series drivers, including the 304.48 betas, are unstable with my card. I end up reverting to 296.10. Don't know about the 460M.

That's weird, I get higher scores and stability in 3D Mark11 and vantage with the 3xx drivers.

As The Rev. says, the 296.10 seem to be the most stable for general use. 295.51 seem to be even better for benchmarking. All the 3xx.xx driver's I've tried have either suffered with latency issues and also lots of TDR's....YMMV though.

Well, if it ends up being unstable, I can always revert.... Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys!
