Given all the articles (such as NVIDIA refreshes notebook graphics with GeForce GTX 560M, attracts ASUS, MSI, Toshiba and Alienware -- Engadget) we've seen about Dell committing to use the 560m in the M17X and M18X is it possible for them to change their mind at a later date? Like, instead of the 560m, they decided at the last minute to go with the 580m?

I was looking at the ASUS G74SX-3DE and it looks pretty tempting. However I never had a ASUS machine so I dunno about there quality and etc. Plus it only comes with a 560, not a 580.

Think Dell will offer the GTX560m in their 3D models witin a month or so. Nobody nows but that could be their plan. Use 580m/6990 for hardcore gaming and the 560m for 3D.

can you think of any reason why the 580m cannot be offered in 3D machines, I honestly think their marketing department needs a slap, they are going to loose market share over this and the laptop market is where the money is, and as I keep saying the 560m is not an improvement on the 460m, the difference can be negated by very slight overclock so 560m is a complete waste of time

only way I see out of this is to release a system bios that allows the 580m to support internal 3D but this will mean possibly 2x bios versions one for 460m and one for 580m, in this modern day of computers this whole situation is shocking

They will also loose market share if its offered with the 3D 120hz screen, nobody will buy AMD then. So the blade cuts both ways.

Dell can easly create a bios that work with both, dont think creating one is the problem here.

What the real problem is...only Dell knows. and they keep their mouths shut. Somebody contact Chris M, maybe he knows more about it.

The emmiter works on Clevo laptops. There is a member here who had a unlocked/modded BIOS, dunno who it was but it was but worth a shot to contact him, maybe he can try something to get the emmiter to work.

they will not loose market share how do you work that out mate, they will loose sales of ATI based laptops replaced by Nvidia and if anything make the M17x more attractive to more people, that being the case I blame ATI for that as Nvidia are just giving customers more, why should Dell even get involved in that - they should be offering the best Nvidia option and the best ATI option and let the customer choose instead of denying us that free choice......rediculous

    Sorry, driving me crazy.

It's lose, not loose. Lose is a verb, loose is an adjective (usually). :)

Thank you for this - I understand people getting it wrong if English is not their first language, but otherwise it's just plain pathetic.

While you're at it, let's talk about "ridiculous"...

And blatant non-use of punctuation. This forum makes me sad sometimes.

Why do people get so bent out of shape by punctuation and grammar? I make my best effort to have proper grammar and punctuation. If someone else doesn't, why should it matter? If you can't understand it at all that is a different story, but a simple one letter spelling mistake needs to be let go.

It's not just a 1-letter mistake. It is a guy who voluntarily sounds like an idiot, and actually, his posts ARE difficult to understand.

What matters is society's general lack of desire to preserve any level of intelligence in the way they write and present themselves. These are the people that procreate and then pass that lack of values on to their increasingly stupid children. Another 2 generations and this world will be filled with people whose only mode of communication is grunts and...well, I guess leetspeak.

And I guess what it boils down to is I come to this forum for valuable information about a product line I like, not to have my brain and eyes hurt by the butchering of the written word.

When a forum is all text based and you have to read it, do you think we appreciate bad grammar and spelling?

It makes you look like a spoiled twelve year old boy and someone who just doesn't care to type properly.

I understand why they are getting mad about this, but they should do what I do......just skip over your posts, because they are too darn hard to read. Yes, it is hard to read and looks horrid. Juss tip normmallly, cuz we not on a sell fone.

I have 580 sli on the way. I'd have passed on 3D even if it was offered. So there are some of us out here who wish to avoid 3D in any form.

Like Nate said, you don't have to read his posts. I on the other hand try to make the best sense I can of other people's posts regardless of how well they write because, after all, a big part of this forum is about helping others.

580m can be ordered in Europe, even with m18x and the SLI setting. Call the hotline and ask for it.

I tried to be polite about it. I don't think I was a jerk or anything. I just got sick of seeing a four letter word that any third grader should know continually misspelled in a way that makes it sound like an entirely different word. The lack of punctuation and grammar honestly doesn't bother me as much because I'm used to dealing with it online.

I thought I'd do him the service of pointing out his error not only because I was sick of reading it but, because, honestly, nobody should go through life not knowing how to spell a word like that. If English is his second language I apologize, but it didn't seem that way from the rest of his posts.

lol, the GTX 580m can do 3D. Only reason it can't is for now...there's no official Nvidia driver for the GTX 580m.

Then wait for the fix. The hardware supports 3D. Dell just needs to get the configuration working. Wait a bit :)

Well, my system is not shipped yet, so therefore I wonder if it will shipped before the 560/580 gets released in the 3D model.

I gave up fighting this battle long ago but I still go back and edit my own posts if I catch a typo. English is a difficult language to master and you can be sure the butchering of the written word is not exclusive to Internet forums; even general business communication in America has shown a significant drop in proper language usage over the past 20 years. The prevalence of smartphones and texting/tweeting has just exacerbated an already deteriorating situation.

Best to just look the other way with critical indifference than to get frustrated about something that will not change.

    Cheers,

Well, the cost for the GTX 460 (the model I will possibly have soon) cost $430 including tax. So by my estimates - it will cost around $600-$800 after tax for the GTX 580. However we will soon see...

6970's been keeping me happy. I'm just very surprised that after only a few months of ownership, they're already cranking out new GPUs lolz.

Also, how the heck you been, Dane?
