So I have been facing the throttle problem on my M17x R3 once in a while with that gradual rise and drop in fps, and I was looking around for solutions on different forums. I already know about the vbios fix that one of the generous members here posted. I also found a post on nVidia forums and one of the person stated that Dell had a bios update that was urgent for fixing some kind of 580m problems. Was it the throttle fix? Are there any recent driver or bios updates about it?
As of now, 2 bottle caps for supporting my laptop are working great and I haven't faced any throttle problem even after gaming at max graphics for about 3 to 4 hours.
Please let me know if there are any fixes by nVidia or Dell about this. I have heard people say that it is some kind of a technical problem and not related to temperature. Any ideas about that folks??
Thanks,
Xeno

Nothing really recent, they are looking into it. Basically, do the vBios fix, and if you still have problems check out my guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...e-fixing-m17x-r3-580m-thermal-throttling.html
The issue is that Dell wants the card to stay below 78c, but they have given it a very lax fan profile. -
For now as I said my 2 bottle caps are working great.....Will wait for Dell to fix the problem.
I just can't get how come a brand like Dell can be so irresponsible despite our pleas and after all we even have a good solution.....They just have to design a good fix from it and hook it up their website so we can update it.
One more thing.....does this fix affect the quality of my graphics in anyway or the computer? And does using alienrespawn revert back to factory settings?
GTX 580m THROTTLE!!!
