I've been having an issue with my m17x R3 since I purchased it last February where if the laptop is unplugged (or I have unplugged it at any point during the current session), then I will eventually get a DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE BSoD.

I thought it was just a simple driver issue and since I kept it plugged most of the time I let it pass until June when it finally became a big enough annoyance to warrant calling Dell. They seemed to have absolutely no clue on what was wrong with my laptop, so they decided, in what appeared to be an extremely random decision, to replace my motherboard and all fans in the laptop.

That didn't do anything other than scratch my m17x that was in perfect condition, so I called again, and they decided to change the video card (GTX 580m) and the battery. I have some serious doubts this would fix the issue, but the worst part is that the replacement parts were ordered on July 6th, and they still haven't replaced them.

I was reading the other day that there was a 680m shortage, so could it be that there's also one for the 580m? Can someone from the Alienware team help me out here? This is getting frustrating and every single time I call Dell they keep telling me it should arrive in 10-15 days. They have been telling me this for weeks now. What a nightmare.

    Sure, I'll help you out

There's a couple of things I'd like you to try first as this may be solved by changing some settings in your computer.

Take a look at this guide, follow the steps and let me know if it worked

I tried every single one of those things. I have formatted my laptop 3 times (1 of them with Windows 8), and I get the exact same error every single time. I've wasted so much time trying to fix this issue it's unbelievable.

This is a 580m issue, I had the same issue a long time ago and replacing the 580m fixed it. The 580m is out of stock until mid September.

The 675m is the same card and in-stock, so if you really need it fixed you can push for them to use a 675m. Keep in mind you may need to fiddle with the drivers or use an INF mod since I am not sure if Nvidia has released the official verde package for 6xx yet. It will work perfectly though, once you get the drivers installed.
