Nvidia has just announce the world's fastest notebook GPU Geforce GTX 680MX, do you think Alienware will have this card as an upgrade option? I think the GPu will be 25% faster than the GTX 680M.
Sadly, I have just purchased a GTX 680M from Dell :(

, so the gtx680 wasn't the flag ship card? What is the point of this when everybody already saved up another 500$ for the regular gtx680? Is ati going to release a 7990m to compete with this?

Dell will probably upgrade to those cards at some point. No clue when though.

I was saving up for the 680's to use in my M18x, looks like that money will be going to these instead.

    Nice find.

I'll still take the 680m. At least I know that card is good to go with my R2. With the 680MX I will have to wait until it is released for upgrade purchase, then wait some more for other R2 users to buy it and install in their notebooks, and THEN hear what they have to say as far as functionality goes. 3-6 months down the line just to see IF the new 680MX will work in my R2? No thanks, I'll stick with the standard 680m. On the bright side, at least the 680m cards will drop in price a little bit.

That's literally the exact same logic I was using earlier to justify my decision to buy a 7970M instead of waiting for if/when a 7990M is released.

But regarding the 680MX. Wow, you can never ever beat technology huh.

Oh sugar, I think this gpu might actually be apple's first foray into a "gaming" enviro....I think as things stand(my personal strained relationship) with Dell, if Mac had a 15inch retina with a 680 or even the 7970 I'd buy it in a heart beat..... Only because of how awesome the build quality and nearly trouble free are their rigs....

How did ford treat you? xD, but I figured with apples new press conference and a new line of iMac, this was why nvidea did that. Alienware has to have this, they can't just not have the fastest mobile gpu in their god like laptops. Good for us because gtx680m will be cheaper now.

Keep in mind everybody the difference in specs between the 680m and 680mx is basically exactly the same as the desktop 670 and 680. Between the desktop 670 and 680 the difference was a few hundred points in 3DMark11 and sometimes the 670 actually came out on top in FPS. The 670 was also a lot cooler and OCed much better. There were people that sold 680's to go to 670's. I am sure the 680mx will be great and all, but it isn't a revolution. It probably won't OC as well and it likely will not be faster than a 680m with a safe OC on stock voltage.

Benchmark Results: 3DMark 11 : GeForce GTX 670 2 GB Review: Is It Already Time To Forget GTX 680?

I'm wondering why Apple would even want to try and market a gaming system? The macs aren't exactly known for their gaming prowess. That's why many games don't support Mac OS. While I applaud Apple for finally making something for the gamers community, they don't develop and market their product for that purpose. iMacs and Macbooks are more for the everyday schmoes who want a great, reliable system to do their everyday computing things with.

    So Confused

PS: I do find Volvo to be much better than Ford or Chevy

I like the troubles with windows, if that makes sense, I like being able to fix it. It's stupid, I know, but it works for me. (also ford f250 with a diesel engine from a semi truck and a manual 10 speed, and BMW for cars...sorry guys). But valve is being very apple friendly, and I think other games will be soon, especially with windows 8 coming out.

    well, not THAT outdated
but that looks pretty much like a desktop 680! (lower clocks?)

thats a hell lot of performance for mobile (not that 680m is inadequate)

but i have seen people getting P8200+ scores on their 680Ms, i could barely cross P6500. dell cards are throttled :(

Interesting that under Nvidia's description of both the GTX680m and the 680MX it is identical in every aspect . 2x faster then a 580m etc etc ;).

This close to the end of 2012, my mind is already on Q1 of 2013 bringing us GTX 700M and AMD 8000M. If you have a half decent rig, forget 680MX.

Well, Apple could make a gaming rig and be successful at it! However, they are cheap s, and do not care about performance. I have both the new 2012 macbook pro (with the 650m) and my Alien with the 580m (680m, i7-3840QM + a more currently being built, looking to trade for an m18x :D) and Apple is not even attempting to get into the gaming market. They use the cheapest low-end graphics cards. Look at the new imac, the lowest end of what Nvidia offers.

The iMacs with the card aren't even shipping until December. It will be very close to next year or more likely sometime next year before you can get it with a new Alienware. It will definitely be next year before you can buy one as an upgrade.

take a closer look at that statement on their site....it's 2x performance compared to the 580m....take a look at their 680m specs and they have the same statement...

The difference between the 680m and the 680mx is faster memory (maybe 45%?) and a few more Cuda cores.. I doubt it going to be much faster then the 680m ..although will likely be over $100 more...

    I was comparing the 680m and the 580m :D

I am not holding my breath for the 680mx because there is no guarantee that this card will be supported or not. Even if someone does manage to tweak the bios and such, there still are inherent issues (m17x r3 and the 680m).

I'd be supprised if they put a 680mx into a Mac as they already have poor thermal design from what I have heard. Also I'm prepared to laugh at the price. If a machine with just a 650m costs $2500+, how much markup are they gonna try to milk consumers for a far more superior system?

I agree that the pricing is absurd! But for the ventilation, given the fact that the new iMac has a really slim casing, I’m giving Apple the benefit of the doubt here. As innovative as they are, they might come up with a very efficient air cooling system which netbooks and AIOs could benefit from.

I don't get all the hype. Aren't these just a small improvement over the 680m's? In another few months, they will release the 700m's series. That is exciting.

    My first post. :p

I just had to say that I completely agree with CryoBolt. I admit, my eyes were lighting up at the idea of having these in SLi configuration, but honestly... Anyone who gets the 680MX is going to be kicking themselves when the 700 series comes to the fray, and we're only one step away from that!

It all depends if Nvidia continue with the same chip selection.

If we go back to the monolithic device like the 480 then it will never hit mobile, the 480M even with a 122W thermal limit would still have been a poor performer.
